FTA to tackle flexo myths at 2014 annual forum

The Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) is to host a ‘mythbusters’ session to ‘dispute, debate and debunk’ myths and misconceptions of the flexo printing process as part of its 2014 annual forum.

Forum 2014 to ‘debunk’ flexo myths and misconceptions

Myths such as it being nearly impossible to steal print jobs back to flexo from gravure and that a 60-degree hex cell shape is the best anilox engraving will be investigated during the session at the Form 2014, which takes place April 27-30 in Baltimore, Maryland.

The session will include research, case studies and experiments presented by industry experts to address ‘flexo fables that have persisted over the years’. A wide array of topics related to flexographic printing will be covered, including: high-definition printing, food packaging, mounting tapes, vignettes, spot colors, measurement tools, taboo processes, anilox engraving, UV ink curing, ink temperatures, photopolymer plates, coating and laminations, and flexo versus competing print processes.

Pepper Stokes, of Robbie Fantastic Flexibles and who is chairing the session alongside Jessica Harkins Harrell of Anderson & Vreeland, said: ‘This session is going to be one for the record books.

‘We’ll shed light on what is fact and what is fabrication, and we’ll do so in an engaging and hilarious manner. This is going to be 120 minutes of straight debunking and clarification so find a seat up front and bring an open mind and a willingness to look at things a different way.’
