Digimarc Barcode enables industrial scanners, smartphones, tablets and other computer interfaces to reliably, efficiently and economically identify traditional barcoded items, along with many other media objects. Digimarc Barcodes are imperceptible to people and do all that visible barcodes do, and can be applied to virtually all forms of media.

A packaging industry design veteran, Okin has joined Digimarc after having served as an independent consultant for the past two years. Prior to consultant work, Okin served as Unilever's first global brand design director, where he oversaw the redesign of all Dove products across multiple categories worldwide. He has additionally worked with the likes of Ralph Lauren, Colgate and Trojan. Throughout his extensive design career, Okin has been awarded patents for more than 25 product structure designs, including brands such as Dove, Pond's, Softsoap, Brut and Air Wick.

Digimarc sees Okin’s appointment as, 'bridging the cultural and technical gaps' between product design, development and implementation, and Sean Calhoon, the company’s vice president for product management, said. ‘We are excited to have Matthew with his wealth of packaging and brand experience on the Digimarc team. He is a visionary global design director with an extensive background creating innovative brand solutions for a wealth of consumer products. He has worked with leading consumer and brand teams and effectively translated their desires into iconic, enduring designs that delivered measurable results.

‘This will be invaluable to Digimarc, our customers and partners, and our ability to counsel the industry about the benefits of the Digimarc Barcode.’

‘Digimarc offers the industry a compelling path forward for packaging design,’ said Okin. ‘I see the Digimarc Barcode drawing consumers closer to brands through faster checkouts, ease of obtaining product information and coupons, and more accurate data. I'm excited to work with the Digimarc team and our partners to help the industry move forward with new design innovation.’
