Chesapeake Corporation, a packaging manufacturer, has created a new role within its pharmaceutical and healthcare division to support its plans to develop and extend its geographical footprint.

David Lennon, who has been with the company eight years, has been promoted to the role of managing director – global market development, pharmaceutical and healthcare. The role will identify opportunities to extend the division’s integrated network through a combination of strategic acquisitions or joint-ventures. This will include further development of the division’s existing position in several key regions to ensure it can provide a full range of packaging and services on a local basis. Lennon will work closely with the corporate VP of strategic development, Vince Hockett and director Brian Berkopec.

David Lennon will retain responsibility for existing operations in Germany, Spain and China and will evaluate and drive the extension of the division’s manufacturing footprint into new territories such as Eastern Europe, India and South America as well as other emerging markets. The division currently employs more than 2,800 people and operates from dedicated sites throughout Western Europe, US and, mostly recently, China.

‘The creation of this new role underpins our clear intent to further develop our pharmaceutical and healthcare business and offer our customers a truly global service. This month we open a new factory in China which sets new local standards for the production of cartons, labels and leaflets. We plan to build upon this development and enhance our market leading position,’ said Mike Cheetham, VP – pharmaceutical and healthcare, Chesapeake Corporation.
