Memjet: ‘The time is now to add digital’

‘The time is now for label converters to add digital printing to their list of capabilities,’ according to Memjet senior vice president Russell Boa, as his company prepares to sponsor next week’s Finat European Label Forum (ELF).

Memjet: ‘The time is now to add digital’

At ELF, Memjet and OEM partner AstroNova will highlight digital label and package printing technology that they claim, ‘enable converters to keep pace with market trends and opportunities.’

Memjet is a developer of inkjet printing technology while AstroNova is a digital printer manufacturer. Its products include the QuickLabel and TrojanLabel inkjet printers.

Both companies are serving as gold-level sponsors of this year’s Finat ELF, while AstroNova has already indicated its intention to use the event as a springboard to further its global growth.

Greg Woods, AstroNova president and CEO, said: ‘Participating in these kinds of events reflects our broader strategy to expand our international distribution and increase our presence in key verticals where we believe our technology has a distinct competitive advantage.’

Memjet has now made clear how it sees both the event and digital printing helping to shape the future of the label industry.

Brands are increasingly tailoring their products to meet the requirements of informed and demanding consumers, Memjet noted. This increased focus on the consumer means the packaging and labeling must play a key role in supporting customer relationships, product communications and sales. As a result, brands are producing more SKUs than ever before. Moreover, there is increased production of seasonal and customized products that support an event or target a specific consumer with relevant messages and images. Further, as marketers get real-time market data on their products, they want to use that data to adjust their products – and the labels and the packaging that hold those products – in real time.

Boa commented: ‘More and more, label converters are learning that digital printing technology helps to keep pace with today’s labeling demands. Digital printing technology enables printers to respond to last-minute changes and produce small print runs with the quality that brands demand. Digital printing also produces operational benefits, eliminating time consuming set-up and costly waste involved in other forms of label printing.’

He noted that such technologies supplement label converters’ existing flexo equipment and provide them with the digital printing resources to capture 'new label production opportunities'. Moreover, the capabilities of digital printing technologies can let users go beyond labels and produce customized packaging that also supports marketing initiatives.

‘Digital printing technology of today has the speed, quality and affordability needed to meet client demands and provide significant operational and resource-saving benefits,’ concluded Boa. ‘The time is now for label converters to add digital printing to their list of capabilities.’
