RadTech reveals RadLaunch class of 2018

RadTech, the non-profit organization for UV and EB processes, has confirmed the RadLaunch class of 2018, with seven participants chosen from the initial shortlist of 14.

The RadLaunch class of 2018 will present their innovations at RadTech 2018 in both the technical conference and on the exhibit floor in a dedicated RadLaunch Pavilion

RadLaunch is a technology accelerator for UV and electron beam (EB) technology start-ups, students and innovators. The inaugural list of RadLaunch candidates ranged from EB water-based primers for flexible packaging to ‘green’ UV LED curable nail gel polishes up for consideration.

The RadLaunch class of 2018 is:

  • Trio Labs and Rapid UV 3D printing, used to create metal and ceramic parts with the same characteristics achieved through standard powder injection molding processes;
  • Reboot Medical and PhotoCast casting tape, a light-cured composite tape that hardens on-demand, producing a rigid splint or cast;
  • A team from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem with nanocrystal photocatalysts, which fill an unmet need for efficient water-soluble photoinitiators for coatings and 2D/3D printing;
  • moi composites with a new, patented process that merges the performances of thermosetting composite materials with the potentialities of additive manufacturing;
  • The Foam Printing Project for creating lightweight parts from resin that is foamed using a patent-pending process and solidified using a UV DLP 3D printer, resulting in parts that have up to 75 percent gas fractions, are lighter in weight and less expensive to produce;
  • Dynamic Matter for a UV curable thermosetting polymer that can be remolded, relax-stressed or repurposed following polymerization for use in optical applications and composites to reduce shrinkage and environmental stresses; and
  • A team from the University of Iowa with Transferrable Shadow Cure (TSC), which decouples initiation and propagation mechanisms in cationic photopolymerization to address light penetration problems, providing full cure regardless of geometry, pigment and filler content, and sensitivity of material to light and heat.

The RadLaunch class of 2018 will be presented at RadTech 2018, taking place May 7-9, 2018 in Chicago. The RadLaunch class of 2018 will present their innovations at RadTech 2018 in both the technical conference and on the exhibit floor in a dedicated RadLaunch Pavilion, sponsored by Heraeus Noblelight America.
