Itarus Ltd, global pre press and information systems provider, has purchased an additional DuPont Cromalin AQ4 and two new Cromalin b-series proofing devices for its new Northampton facility. A focus on the benefits of the latest technologies, and an ever-increasing customer base, were key to the purchase decision for the new equipment.

Tim May, customer service executive, said: ‘In today's fast moving industry speed of turnaround is essential, but there must be no compromise in quality. We needed additional proofing that we could trust. We have been using DuPont digital proofing systems for over five years, and continue to be delighted with their superior color accuracy, consistency and reliability. This is particularly important for leading brands and retailers that require strict management of their corporate colors. With the DuPont Cromalin AQ4 we can be assured of this.’

The DuPont Cromalin AQ4 is a continuous-flow ink jet proofer featuring a high-resolution mode of 600/1200dpi. It has a 22’ x 28.3’ format size and uses Gamut Enhanced inks and media set to further expand the range of spot and special colors produced.

The Cromalin b-series system is an advanced implementation of the Piezo Array proofing technology, developed by DuPont to ensure proofing quality and accuracy at low cost. The system also features auto-calibration capability and precision head micro-alignment, ensuring total output dependability every time.

Because Itarus works in the packaging industry where brand identity is a very important aspect of a printed pack, the breakdown of the use of the two DuPont proofing alternatives has seen the b-series products used mainly for progress proofs, with the AQ4s providing the final proof for contract sign off.

‘Color separation for packaging can be very demanding’, said Paul Tarpey, quality assurance executive at Itarus Ltd.  ‘We need to predict quality and maintain speed of delivery, by using Cromalin b-series, we can be sure of the integrity, quality and color balance of all elements of the job at all stages of the production. We then give the proof that final edge by using the AQ4 to provide an exact match to the final printed job, especially in the area of special colors. We can now average 4 hours from artwork to pre-press’

‘With the high profile brands that we support, product quality combined with excellent customer service is essential. When we moved into our new facility, we had the opportunity to accommodate additional proofing devices but the timing of the installation was absolutely critical. We needed the new proofers ready to run as soon as we shut down our existing two DuPont Cromalin AQ4's at our old premises, with DuPont's professional engineers the installation went without a hitch. This ensured there was no loss of service to clients.’
