Spear has been recognized with the 2009 Environmental Leadership Award from the TLMI at the annual meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Environmental Leadership Award annually recognizes the TLMI member that has consistently demonstrated a commitment to progressive environmental practices across a range of areas including solid waste reduction, recycling, waste and energy recovery, clean process technology and the implementation of an education program. TLMI established the Environmental Leadership Award in 2003.

SpearEarth is the company’s environmental program that developed the activities that led to receiving the award. Program highlights over the last year are claimed to include a reduction of 5 million annual land-fill pounds through thin film development; liner and matrix recycling programs that eliminate over 13.5 million land-fill pounds annually; solvent recovery and supply programs that allow Spear to reclaim more than 3.5 million pounds of solvent and vertically integrate 95 percent of total usage; total carbon emission savings of 9,250 tCO2 annually through energy reduction and process improvement programs.
