Spec Systems moves into full color label printing with Xeikon

Digital printing specialist Xeikon has installed its first 3030 press in South Africa at Spec Systems, which will use the unit to move into full color label production.

Spec Systems specializes in thermal transfer solutions, barcode labels and blank labels. The label printer will use the color press to complement its current business, as it moves into full color production using digital printing.

After comparing a range of digital systems, Spec Systems decided to invest in a roll-to-roll configuration built around the Xeikon 3030 and an off-line Xeikon miniDCoat for UV coating, die-cutting and rewinding.

Kevin van Dyk, managing director Spec Systems, said: ‘The personal approach of Xeikon and their local dealer Thunderbolt gave us confidence from the beginning. Furthermore, we were able to buy the complete solution, the printing press and finishing equipment, from one supplier.

‘While evaluating the Xeikon technology we experienced that the print quality is superior. When we found out that the Xeikon press can print on standard label substrates, without the need for pre-treatment, the choice was obvious; this is the basis for an easy implementation.’

Filip Weymans, director of business development and marketing for labels and packaging at Xeikon, said: ‘We are delighted that Spec Systems realizes not only that we have top products, but also that our approach of offering complete solutions, including software and workflow, finishing and service, fits perfectly well with their needs.

‘It's just a matter of time until the MEA area fully embraces digital label printing, and Spec Systems will be at the forefront of that.’
