Acoban gave 20 ‘permanence’ scholarships which cover 50 percent of students’ semester costs, and six ‘excellence’ scholarships which cover 90 percent. Four further ‘excellence’ scholarships were awarded: two by TEF México and one each by Etifilms and Caintra, the regional industry body of the Mexican state of Nuevo León.

Acoban president Gerardo González and vice president Jorge Martinez were present at the ceremony and toured the workshop, stepping into a flexography class to what the students were learning that day.

Later in the same month, the association organized a one-on-one networking event for converter and supplier members at the Habita Hotel in Monterrey. Suppliers had the opportunity to choose four converters they wanted to meet, and were given 15 minutes to talk to each one. The one-to-one meetings were followed by a drinks reception which provided additional networking time.

During the event, Acoban president Gerardo González paid tribute to his predecessor, José Alfonso Rubio of Materiales y Etiquetas Millennium, for the latter’s accomplishments during his two-year term.

On June 4, Acoban organized a Digital Tour for 50 second semester graphic arts students. The tour included a visit to the plant of Acoban converter member Etimex to see HP Indigo digital press in action.

The association has recently added Channeled Resources as a supplier member, following the company’s presence at Acoban’s Flexo Seminar in Monterrey in January. Channeled Resources’ Calvin Frost and Sandy Briolat gave presentations about recycling and ecological processes in flexo.
