Altana acquires technology portfolio, research platform from NuLabel Technologies

NuLabel Technologies was founded in 2009 in response to the challenge of creating an environmentally responsible labeling option. Since then, its team of polymer chemists, chemical engineers, researchers and technicians have been involved in the development of activatable chemistries for the packaging industry. NuLabel’s activatable technologies are built on its fluid-activated platform, which is pre-applied to label papers and completely dry to the touch. The dry coating is then activated by a water-based, glue-free spray that is applied using precision hardware built by NuLabel’s global OEM partners. Altana noted that the acquisition also includes novel technology for resealable packaging.

The acquired technologies will be integrated into Altana’s Actega North America division, where they are to be developed to market maturity. Altana also takes over an interdisciplinary team of researchers. Altana claimed its environmentally friendly technologies allow for unique packaging designs that us lower quantities of consumable materials.

Lux will join the Actega North America team and industry veteran Harold Schofield will continue leading NuLabel as interim CEO.
