APC orders custom-built Comexi Acom gravure press

American Packaging Corporation (APC) has ordered a nine-station Comexi Acom RG Platinum gravure press, which will be custom built to meet the printer’s requirements.

The new press will be the fourth rotogravure press that Comexi Acom has supplied to APC

APC is a privately held converter specializing in 10-color HD flexo printing, 10-color rotogravure printing, multi-ply extrusion, co-extrusion and adhesive lamination of film, paper and foil. Narrow web label printing and converting is also part of its activities.

Comexi and APC have enjoyed a long collaborative relationship beginning in 2006 when the first Acom RG Platinum press was sold into the US packaging firm. APC runs three Manufacturing Centers of Converting Excellence and a Packaging Innovation Center to support several industries including dry foods, seasoning and mixes, coffee and tea, refrigerated dairy and fresh produce, frozen products, confectionary, medical, personal care, nutraceutical, hard to hold products, liquids, and other specialty items.

The Comexi Acom RG Platinum has a web width of 650-1850mm (25-753in), and a printing cylinder repeat of 420-1020mm (16-40in). It has a mechanical speed up to 600m/min (2,000ft/min). Multiple in-line processes are available, such as cold seal, lacquering, and solvent and solventless lamination.

The latest press being built for APC will feature advances in registration control, quick changeovers, 100 percent defect detection, increased production speeds and improved efficiencies. It is to be operational in February 2017.

‘This press will be the fourth gravure press that Comexi Acom has supplied us,’ stated APC executive vice president Jeff Koch. ‘What keeps bringing us back to Comexi Acom is its high level of quality and service along with competitive pricing and offering the latest in machine technology. We have developed a very positive, trusting and collaborative partnership over the past decade.’
