The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has published Issue Two of the BRC Global Standard for Storage and Distribution.

The BRC’s global standards are internationally recognized and encourage good manufacturing practices in food, consumer products and packaging. They enable retailers to have confidence in their suppliers and help suppliers by allowing them to show they are maintaining high-standards of safety, quality and legal compliance.

The new version is said to represent a substantial upgrade from Issue One, with a new lay out, simpler presentation and clearer explanation of requirements. The Standard is designed to ensure best practice in the handling, storage and distribution of products. It also promotes continuous improvement in operating practices.

The Standard includes audit requirements, scheme rules and background and provides the basis for an accredited certification of sites storing and/or distributing food, packaging and consumer products. It also enables certification of sites that wholesale products or carry out a range of contracted services.
