Cosmo Films commissions CPP line

Cosmo Films has started up a cast polypropylene (CPP) line to support its growing presence in that market.

The company has been manufacturing CPP films since February. At present, all eight products under its CPP portfolio have been commercialized and have been received well by the market, according to Cosmo Films. The portfolio consists of three transparent, three metalized and two speciality products. The speciality products include high speed packaging and anti-fog films. The company is working on further developing the portfolio.

The new CPP line offers an annual capacity of 1,800 metric tonnes and has been commissioned at Cosmo Film’s existing facility in Waluj, Aurangabad.

The decision to set up a CPP line comes in wake of polymer gaining favor as material of choice in both traditional flexible packaging, as well as non-packaging, applications. Some of the reasons for this broad based acceptance are excellent heat seal strength, good thermal stability, good puncture resistance, excellent clarity and printing, and barrier properties. The film type also has good yield economics owing to its low density. Application areas for the film includes hot filling and retort applications, high speed application on FFS machines and twist wrap applications.

Pankaj Poddar, Cosmo Films CEO, said: ‘The CPP market has been largely unorganized and was looking for an organized player like us to add value to the market. And being a focussed BOPP player comes in handy as CPP and BOPP have always been close cousins.’
