Craft brewery using hot foil stamping for label appeal

Scottish craft brewery Tempest Brewing has started using hot foil stamping to provide ‘a special something’ to its labels.

Hot foil stamping has also been used on the labels for ‘The Old Fashioned’ concept beer

With the help of label printer label.co.uk, Tempest Brewing has added hot foils to some of its labels, such as its Angel Brew product, brewed in collaboration with Naked Wines. In this application, the foiling is used to add a premium feel that highlights the exclusiveness to the end customer. On labels for its most recent brew, Tangerine Porter, hot foil stamping is used to provide seasonal appeal and deliver a festive appearance, ‘without being overly Christmassy,’ said Shannon McFarlane, brand and marketing manager at Tempest Brewing.

Hot foil stamping has also been used on the labels for ‘The Old Fashioned’, a concept beer brewed to replicate the mouthfeel and flavor of the eponymous cocktail. Because of that, Tempest Brewing wanted it to have a modern take on a Bourbon label inspired design, so using textured paper, different fonts and hot foiling.

‘The gold really sets the entire label off and, in my opinion, ties it to a Bourbon bottle label,’ said McFarlane.

‘Hot foiling is a great tool for adding a special something to a label but we do not use this indiscriminately. Like our designs, hot foiling is considered in relation to the individual beer itself, its inspiration and purpose.’

Tempest Brewing is also benefitting from the use of digital printing to supply just-in-time labels for its range of craft beverages. Read more here.
