The hybrid printing system, Omet XJet – powered by Durst, integrates the digital press manufacturer’s Tau 330 digital inkjet system with Omet X6 flexo stations and converting units, including cold foil, hot foil, lamination, varnishing, die-cutting and slitting.

XJet is powered by Durst Tau RSC, a UV inkjet printing press featuring a 330mm (13in) print width with maximum print speed of 78 linear m/min (245ft/min) at 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution. Eight color stations, CMYK+W+OVG, coupled with newly designed high pigmented inks, deliver 98 percent pantone color gamut coverage.

The combination of Durst inkjet technology together with Omet X6 units is claimed to ‘assure reliability and excellent results at every run’, with the final output produced in one pass.

XJet can be used as a hybrid system, a standalone flexo option or a standalone digital press, according to the length of the run or the level of personalization required. Durst and Omet identified this as helping to optimize production time and costs, achieving a faster ROI and opening up new market opportunities.

XJet is being introduced at Durst’s Digital Days event this week at its headquarters in Brixen, northern Italy. A prototype machine combining the suppliers’ respective technologies was presented at Labelexpo Americas 2016, with a showcase in Europe made at interpack 2017. Durst has installed an XJet at its demonstration center.

Helmuth Munter, segment manager for labels and package printing at Durst, said: ‘We are very pleased to partner Omet in the launch of this highly professional hybrid printing solution. It combines the best technologies of both, the digital inkjet printing and conventional pre- and post-press printing and finishing world, offering our common future customers a highly cost effective and complete “all-in-one” printing process.’

Marco Calcagni, Omet sales and marketing director, added: ‘We managed to create a complete “Made in Italy” printing solution that meets the market trends of personalization, just-in-time deliveries and final product variation, but also maintaining all the capabilities of a conventional press. I believe that Durst is the right partner for such a challenging project because they have deep knowledge and the best digital inkjet technology acknowledged by the international market.’
