German pharma label converter Etibana Haftetitketten has joined UPM Raflatac’s RafCycle program, which reuses self-adhesive label stock to create new materials.

UPM Raflatac RafCycle program reuses spent release liner

RafCycle takes labeling by-products that would otherwise be incinerated or landfilled and gives them a new life as UPM ProFi composite material, new paper products or renewable energy.
Etibana is a GMP certified company and one of the leading label suppliers for the pharmaceutical industry. The company’s executive director Mike Manss explains the importance of programs such as RafCycle in an increasingly environmentally conscious marketplace:
‘In the industrial future, sustainable business will be a very important issue because of limited resources. That is the reason why companies should be aware of the environment and recycling their waste. For Etibana, it is and has always been important to be a sustainable commercial enterprise. Currently our company is certified in the area of energy management according to DIN 50001 with the purpose to save more energy. In addition, our company’s facilities are ISO 14001 certified.
‘By utilizing RafCycle, we can also recycle our release liner and it will be turned into a completely new material. We protect the environment and reduce the waste, but we also achieve operational goals. UPM is responsible for the collection of the waste-containers, and by installing an extraction system for the release liner, we can reduce our transportation expenses and optimize our proceedings. RafCycle program offers excellent assistance for achieving business and environment goals.’
