French label converter Etiq’Alp, a manufacturer of both adhesive and non-adhesive labels for food packaging and other industries, has acquired a Xeikon 3300 digital label press.

‘It was very clear to us that we needed to add a digital device to our production platform,’ said Pascal Pareja, PDG of Etiq'Alp. ‘After much research and consideration, we selected the Xeikon 3300 based on its excellent price/performance ratio and the ability to print on a very broad array of substrates. We were particularly pleased with the fact that Xeikon toners are approved by the FDA for immediate contact with food packaging.  In addition, some colors are approved for direct contact with dry food. This is very important to our business and our ability to sustain future growth, especially in the food packaging market.’

Xeikon’s 3300 web-based press has a top speed of 19.2 m/min of label production, and a monthly duty cycle of more than 457,000 meters. The five color engine provides for the four standard process colors plus a choice of spot color, special security toner for anti-counterfeiting applications, or an opaque white for the ‘no label’ look on transparent material. The press is capable of handling a wide range of substrates including self-adhesive films, co-extruded films, unsupported films, paper, transparent and opaque foils, and paperboard. The press handles a substrate width of 330mm, and provides for an imaging width of 322mm. The dry toner electro photography imaging process enables the use of conventional substrates without the need for coating or pre-treatment.

‘We believe that the Xeikon 3300 will help our company to take sustainable production one step further,’ added Liekens. ‘In addition to its food safety characteristics, the press has no dangerous dust emissions, and its very efficient makeready means extremely limited paper waste. It is also important to us and to our customers that the digital process emits no chemical waste, making our operation more environmentally sustainable. For us, the Xeikon 3300 is an important step as we continue to evolve our business to maintain a leadership position in our market.’
