Gallus to maintain label and folding carton focus while adding digital to its offering

Gallus increased its sales by eight percent in 2014 off the back of the trend towards short-notice demand for label and folding carton printing machinery, which will remain its focus in packaging going forward.

Gallus introduced the DCS 340 last year, and will officially launch it at Labelexpo Europe 2015

In 2014, Gallus said sales reached 202 million CHF (210 million USD), including a record sales total in the final quarter, compared to 187 million CHF (195 million USD) in 2013.

Gallus said that its customers are more optimistic, but added that, since the financial and economic crisis, are inclined to invest in the second half of the year and are fulfilling a trend towards more short-notice demand for label and folding carton printing machinery.

By region, Gallus noted that slowing growth in important emerging markets, such as Brazil and China, and the slump in demand caused by the political crises in parts of Eastern Europe and the Middle East were compensated for by strong sales in core European countries.

Gallus said it is maintaining its existing strategy of focusing on labels and folding cartons in the packaging segment, as well as expanding into digital printing and investing in innovations, all while continuing to optimize its costs.

In September, Gallus unveiled the DCS 340, a digital label printing platform with a multi-color inkjet module, developed in collaboration with Heidelberg and Fujifilm. It recenty hosted an event to detail development of the DCS 340, as well as confirm a forthcoming beta test site and an early production schedule.

The Gallus DCS 340 will be officially launched at Labelexpo Europe 2015, and you can read more about its development in Labels & Labeling, issue 3, 2015.
