Goldsteig to be first customer for IML-T from RPC

RPC Bebo-Plastik has now commenced manufacture of packs using its in-mold label thermoforming (IML-T) technology, following the installation of a dedicated line at its factory in Bremervörde, Germany.

The company’s first IML-T customer will be Goldsteig, a German producer of Mozzarella, for whom RPC Bebo will produce a new custom-molded container

IML-T was introduced at Interpack, and sees pre-printed labels applied to a container during the thermoforming process, meaning intricate, multi-colored designs in up to eight colors can be incorporated to achieve a better level of finish and greater coverage than with direct printing, RPC Bebo-Plastik said. Labels can be applied to any container shape and the same system can handle different packaging shapes and weights. Further, a special lacquer can be applied to the labels for barrier containers to enable them to withstand the autoclave process.

RPC Bebo-Plastik added that IML-T brings premium quality decoration to the thermoforming sector, enabling food manufacturers to create effective branding and on-shelf differentiation in highly competitive markets. Label options include five-sided, three-sided, banderole with or without bottom label, two half banderoles with separate bottom label and bottom only.

The company’s first customer will be Goldsteig, a German producer of mozzarella, for whom RPC Bebo-Plastik will produce a new custom-molded container.

Further new orders are currently being finalized.

Robert Steinmeijer, RPC Bebo-Plastik sales and marketing manager, said: ‘We have seen a huge amount of interest in IML-T since we launched the technology at Interpack earlier this year. Typical applications have included spreadable products, snacks and a number of replacement projects for can and glass, indicating the flexibility of the technology in meeting a huge range of product and branding requirements.’
