Herma UK completes coast to coast cycle challenge

Three members of the Herma UK team have completed a coast to coast cycle challenge in support of Breast Cancer Care, Cancer Research and the Namuwongo children’s charity in Africa.

The challenge started at Allonby in Cumbria

The challenge started at Allonby in Cumbria and saw them ride from west to east, finishing in Whitby, Yorkshire. The 165-mile journey saw the three riders encounter heavy rain, 40mph headwinds and a climb of over 10,000ft, although they were able to enjoy lunch at Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub in the UK at 1,732ft. They also celebrated with fish and chips in the seaside town where they finished.

Herma UK divisional director Colin Phillips, one of the riders, said: ‘It was a great team effort, extremely hard cycling against the elements, however after 165 miles it was all worthwhile as it raised money for people less fortunate than ourselves.’

Phillips was accompanied by Paul Eggbeer, UK sales manager, and John Hill, technical manager.

There have been a number of industry charity fundraising initiatives in recent years, include Mike Burton of AB Graphic undertaking a solo crossing of the Atlantic earlier this year. The coast to coast cycle challenge is the latest charity effort from Herma UK, including a recent charity golf day organized in partnership with Nilpeter and a cycle ride to Labelexpo Europe 2013.

‘Feet up now for a little while until we come up with the next challenge,’ said Phillips. ‘We will be flying to Labelexpo this year and not riding.’
