IMI Europe’s Inkjet Summer School 2017 features six courses allowing developers to get an in-depth look at key technology areas related to inkjet. This includes Inkjet Academy along with courses on printhead modeling, ink characterization, textile printing, ink drying and curing, and functional material printing.

The ‘Inkjet Academy – The theory of inkjet technology’ course runs on June 12-13, and is to be presented by Mike Willis of Pivotal Resources and Dr Alan Hudd of Alchemie Technology. The course gives an introduction to the basics of inkjet technology.

The ‘Fluid Dynamics & Acoustics – How inkjet printing really works’ course also runs on June 12-13, and uses the theory of fluid acoustics to understand the characteristics of droplet formation and subsequent behaviour. The course leader is Professor Dr Frits Dijksman from the University of Twente in The Netherlands.

The ‘Inkjet Ink Characterisation – Viscosity, dispersions, jetting & surfaces’ course runs June 14-15, and covers rheology and surface tension measurements, particle and dispersion assessment, as well as drop visualization and print quality analysis. Course leaders include Professor Long Lin of the University of Leeds, Gérald Chabanis and Dr Steve Ward-Smith of Malvern Instruments, and Kyle Pucci of ImageXpert.

Also on June 14-15 is the ‘Digital Textile Printing – Applications, ink chemistry and integration’ course, offering an in-depth introduction to digital textile printing markets and technology.

Closing the IMI Europe Inkjet Summer School 2017 are the ‘Inkjet Drying & Curing – Hardware & chemistry for fixing inkjet inks’ and ‘Jetting Functional Fluids – Rheology, deposition, process & development’ courses on June 15-16.

The first course covers the requirements for fixing inkjet inks, and covers near-IR drying, UV curing and electron beam curing hardware, as well as the required chemistry, while the ‘Jetting Functional Fluids’ course looks at the development of functional printing applications, including inkjet printhead selection, formulating an ink with functional materials and jetting functional fluids onto a substrate.

‘Our Inkjet Summer School is the ideal place to learn about inkjet technology in a relaxed environment,’ said Dr Tim Phillips, managing director IMI Europe. ‘We have a great venue right in the heart of the beautiful city of Ghent, and six excellent courses from industry leaders. As well as learning from the course providers, our events also give excellent opportunities to exchange information with the other attendees, and the Summer School is no different, with lunches, evening receptions and a special boat trip on the canals of Ghent.’
