SkinnyPack claimed gold in the Best Prototype Package category, with IPL Inc. the molder and Precision Press supplying the label. SkinnyPack is described as offering ‘remarkable IML graphics for greater shelf appeal’, and uses less plastic in its construction.

Other gold award-winning entries included TrustPack for the Mars Canada brand Uncle Ben’s, which was delivered by IPL Inc. (molder) and Inland Label (label supplier).

This won in the Best Injection Molded (IML) Package category, and was specified to be reusable, easy to manipulate and to allow easy dosing/portioning for a Chinese New Year promotion. To this end, handles on the side are designed to make handling simple and easy, and a window is integrated into the artwork with dosing indicators.

The Best Product Family category gold award winner was the Film Seal Round product, again delivered by IPL Inc. as molder and Inland Label as label supplier.

Arla Foods Canada was looking to relaunch its Tre Stelle brand of fresh cheeses using a more premium looking packaging. Film Seal Round saw Arla Foods Canada move from white offset printed containers to IML decoration, with assorted colored lids used to differentiate products from one another.

Inland Label was also involved in another award-winning entry, this time in the Best Product Family category for Hormel Foods’ Skippy Singles. This silver award winner involved Berry Plastics as molder, and featured a clear film label substrate to allow consumers to see through the resealable canister and view the six single-serve cups inside. It also features a clear front panel and small back panel so consumers can see when they need to purchase more.

Adam Boehlke, business development manager at Inland Label, said: ‘At Inland Label we value the opportunity to create innovative, unique in-mold packaging for our customers – just as these awards showcase.’

Other label suppliers that were involved with winning entries in the 2014 IMDA Awards include: In Mold Technology (gold) and Serigraph (silver) in the Best Injection Molded Durable IMD Part category; Korsini-SAF in the Best Part Design Category; and Tasus Canada in the Best Thermoformed Durable IMD Part category.

The 2014 IMDA Awards winners were chosen by a panel of judges based on creativity in design, engineering and innovation. IMDA Awards will be presented to the winners at the 2014 IMDA Symposium dinner on October 22 at the DoubleTree Chicago North Shore Hotel & Conference Center in Skokie, Illinois, USA.
