Label House bets on flexible packaging with Karlville laminator

Label House, a prime label and specialty printed packaging leader in the Caribbean, made a clear move into flexible packaging production with the purchase of a Karlville Webcontrol Solventless Laminator in mid web format while at Labelexpo Americas. The strategic move will allow Label House, based in Trinidad & Tobago, to streamline its processes in order to expand its business into the growing flexible packaging business.

Printing with both Nilpeter in-line flexographic and HP Indigo digital formats, the stand-alone solventless laminator will allow Label House to cost effectively manufacture multiple layer laminated structures with a solvent free process ideal for food applications. The bond strength attained with the solvent free process is reliable for pouch production where sealing conditions are most stringent.

Raul Matos, VP of sales and manufacturing at Karlville, said, ‘Label House was one of our first shrink sleeve pioneer customers in the early Karlville days. With the purchase of the laminator, Label House takes another important step towards innovation that will transform its business over the years to come, similar to its decision to move into shrink sleeves years ago.’

The Webcontrol Solventless Laminator can laminate webs from 220mm to 800mm at speeds up to 500 meters per minute. The machine can run at lower speeds to align with digital printing presses that typically run at slower speeds. An Inline Coat Weight System can be incorporated to check gram weights of the adhesive during lamination process. This feature is a standard in Japan’s solvent free market, and an important Karlville offering that extends automation throughout the production process.
