Mactac has supplied the pressure-sensitive adhesive label materials for the 40 million United States Postal Service (USPS) Olympic Games commemorative stamps. Revived in 1859, the international multi-sport event now known as the Olympic Games began in Olympia, Greece, in 776 BC. Marking the beginning of the XXIX Olympiad, this year’s games carry on the tradition of blending sport, culture and education in an event that honors the spirit of international unity and athleticism.

’No matter where they take place, the Olympic Games are enjoyed by individuals around the world as athletes from each nation come together to compete not only for the gold, but the honor of simply taking part,’ said Allison Hazel, Mactac Printing Products. ‘Supplying the labelstock for this commemorative stamp allows Mactac to also play a small role and show its support of the athletes, the games and the symbolic meaning behind the event.’

The Olympic Games stamp was designed by Clarence Lee and features a drawing of a graceful gymnast, drawn by artist Katie Doka. The denomination in the upper right corner is placed inside a design similar to the ink mark of a Chinese ‘chop,’ which is a carved wooden stamp. The bottom left corner hosts the five intertwined Olympic Rings, which represent the five inhabited continents.
