News awards scheme to recognize innovative labeling

The Inspirational Packaging Awards (IPA) program has opened for entries, with labeling a core element of the competition.

Inspirational Packaging Awards to be presented at Packaging Innovations Madrid

A total of 16 prizes in the new awards program will be presented at Packaging Innovations Madrid during a ceremony on November 5, covering areas such as drinks, food, cosmetics, perfumes, fashion and household products.

Three of the 16 awards to be presented are for most innovative labeling, with others to cover things such as branding and design, innovation in use and sustainability.

The IPA program is sponsored by Derprosa, who will present a final award for the best Derprosa rolling application.

Entries are invited from brand owners, designers and packaging manufacturers across the world, with no restriction on where a piece is made, designed or developed. Packs must be products launched in 2013 and 2014.

Winners will be chosen from a shortlist by a panel of industry experts, including Suzanne McEwen, head of marketing and communications at Pro Carton, and Kevin Vyse, a packaging technologist at Marks & Spencer. Functionality, graphic design, new materials, shape, usability, but overall innovation, are some of the features judges will be looking for.

The deadline for submitting entries is September 30, 2014.

Visitors to Packaging Innovations Madrid will also be able to vote for their favorite in a popular vote contest.
