The 2008 National Environmental, Health and Safety (NEHS) Conference will tackle the most significant issue that has the printing industry abuzz: green printing and corporate sustainability.

The PIA/GATF co-sponsored conference, March 10–12, 2008, at the Sheraton Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana, focuses on environmental, health, safety, and HR issues for the graphic communications industries.

In addition to roundtable discussions and sessions that alert industry professionals of the latest health and safety information, the NEHS Conference will offer case studies; a keynote presentation by Mark Davito, research director for Reed Business Information covering their latest research findings on sustainability; Brian Suttleworth, the associate director of environmental and safety for H.J. Heinz addressing what they are requiring from their suppliers; and ideas for printers looking to set up sustainable business practices.

Corporate sustainability topics include:

  • Details on the new Sustainable Green Printing Partnership

  • Alternative products and uses for inks and solvents

  • Carbon footprinting and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission calculations

  • Printing certification programs, recyclability, and biodegradability

The conference will also feature a Hazardous Materials Transportation Training seminar. This two-day seminar, held before and after the conference, will help printers comply with training requirements for handling, distributing, and shipping hazardous materials.

‘Sustainable green printing is the most significant issue that the printing industry has had to respond to in years. The 2008 NEHS Conference will provide information that will give printers some direction so they can respond to their customer’s demands for green printing,’ said Gary Jones, director of Environmental Health & Safety, PIA/GATF.
