ScanMould targets 'ambitious' IML growth

ScanMould, Scandinavia’s first dedicated IML label converter, has identified opportunities in a number of markets across Europe as it targets growth.

Martin Fundal saw the opportunity to develop a dedicated production unit to fulfill the growing demand for IML

Having supplied complex oxygen barrier labels to Scandinavia’s largest rigid plastic packaging manufacturer, Martin Fundal saw the opportunity to develop a dedicated production unit to fulfill the growing demand for IML. This saw him create ScanMould separate to his existing label business ScanKet three years ago. ScanMould prints in up to eight colors on a 1.3m-wide Windmöller & Hölscher (W&H) Miraflex CI flexo press. ScanMould has invested in a package of cleaning equipment from Flexo Wash to support its production, including a plate washer, anilox cleaner, parts washer and distiller.

With an annual sales capability of around 20 million EUR at its Jyllinge plant in Denmark, Fundal is keen to grow market coverage for his high added-value products that can include metallic finishes.  Currently, demand for these include paint cans and products for the fitness supplements market. He sees new opportunities in cosmetics and skin care, including the sun cream market.

ScanMould predicts that it has the potential to become one of the largest IML houses in Europe by volume, and has ambitious plans to develop, but initially only in the niche market work that best suit its production facilities best.

‘Right now, we can ship up to 35 pallets of finished product each day, which from a workforce of 12 indicates how productive we are,’ commented Fundal.
