Taghleef Industries closes Derprosa takeover

Derprosa Film manufactures and markets BOPP films for food packaging, labels and graphic arts applications, and has an established corporate culture of investment in research and development. In recent years, Derprosa worked to differentiate itself from its competitors by developing, patenting and offering a unique portfolio of films for the graphic arts applications designated to the luxury packaging market.

The deal was initially announced in early April and Derprosa Film will be incorporated with Taghleef Industries Europe, consisting of four production sites in Italy, Spain, Hungary and Egypt. The acquisition will expand Taghleef Industries’ presence while increasing its annual global BOPP film production capacity to approximately 400,000 tons.

Valerio Garzitto, chief executive officer (CEO) of Taghleef Industries Europe, said: ‘I am looking forward to joining forces with Derprosa to increase our contribution to our customers in Europe. The combination of our assets will offer greater capacity, a wider product diversity, brands offering, increase of geographical proximity to customers and last but not least increase our market share.’

Rashid Al Ghurair, chairman of Taghleef Industries, said: ‘The high-added value film range of Derprosa Film will allow Taghleef Industries to penetrate new markets, diversify its product offering and seize further business opportunities. Our companies will join their forces and consolidate their presence worldwide.’

Dr Detlef Schuhmann, CEO of Ti Group, added: ‘In the past years Derprosa Film has been able to create a high-performing business and has strong prospects ahead. Taghleef Industries is proud to add this new company to the group who shares the same values: to provide the industry with outstanding products and services through reliable and consistent quality films.’

José Ángel Medina, CEO of Derprosa Film, concluded: ‘Derprosa’s strategic approach to the markets and continuous investment in research and development has allowed the company to grow healthily. Indeed our choice to partner with Taghleef Industries has been driven by our increasing exposure to the markets and the opportunity to maximize our reach.’
