UL hosts labels standards technical panel and roundtable meeting

UL recently hosted a two-day label event at its Northbrook, Illinois, headquarters. This meeting, which took place on June 21-22, was organized by UL’s performance materials division and participants included more than 20 companies ranging from stock suppliers, printers, ink manufacturers and end users to industry consultants. The focus was to discuss UL 969, marking and labeling systems, new standard proposals and current industry challenges.

Topics from the event ranged from new standard proposals to address permanency of marking requirements for cord tags and field installed labels at electrical systems, to barcodes, aerospace, and chemical restrictions imposed on the supply chain.

‘Both events far exceeded our expectations,’ said Ryan J Houle, senior business development manager of UL’s performance materials division. ‘As always, the discussion between the attendees and UL’s technical experts provided an opportunity to think through potential solutions to current challenges facing the industry, such as providing safer labels to the marketplace for durable applications. Initial feedback from the events was well received and UL is planning on offering more of these events in the future.’
