Avery Dennison unveils durable label portfolio

The Fasson Roll North America division of Avery Dennison has launched a customer-ready durables portfolio, aimed at simplifying durable goods labeling. The seven multi-purpose products streamline application matching, UL testing and qualification, and are proven to work in the vast majority of durable goods applications, says the company.

‘This user-friendly portfolio gives converters a strong product offering with broad performance capabilities coupled with reduced product complexity,’ said Paul Purdef, manager, thermal transfer film, Avery Dennison Roll Materials North America. ‘We’ve designed the portfolio to make it easy and cost-effective for converters to serve their customers by reducing the time and costs associated with UL approval because Avery Dennison has already secured pre-approval for inks and thermal transfer ribbons.’

The portfolio holds seven Fasson product combinations that are UL recognized for flexo UV and water-based inks; digital UV inkjet; wax/resin and resin thermal transfer ribbons; and adhesives offering a very broad temperature range. The new products include one overlaminate, which is a 1-mil clear print-treated PET. There are also six base material combinations: 3-mil synthetic paper and 2.3-mil white BOPP, each with a single adhesive option; and 2-mil white PET and 2-mil matte chrome PET, each with two adhesive options.

‘Avery Dennison’s new portfolio of UL-recognized constructions will be extremely helpful in executing speed-to-market strategies, which has always been a challenge for durables,’ said Steve Luedke, business and market development manager with WS Packaging Group, one of the largest printing and label converting operations in North America. ‘Deploying a construction that is already recognized by UL will allow us to do in about two weeks what has typically taken three months. All of this results in minimal UL interaction and related costs. It improves our response time, and that increases business opportunities.’

A dedicated transition team, including product specialists, UL experts and lab technicians, supports the new Fasson customer-ready durables portfolio. The portfolio is also supported through the Fasson Exact program, which provides trim-free amounts in quantities as small as one roll and shipped Monday through Friday.
