Pulse launches Primus-AL for aluminum substrates

UK-based Pulse Roll Label Products has launched Primus-AL – a UV primer for application in-line prior to printing and coating of aluminum surfaces. The technology is an alternative to the mechanical pre-treatment of aluminum foils using corona, flame and other methods of surface alteration.

‘It is well known that printing and coating of aluminum metalized substrates offer a significant challenge,’ said managing director Gary Seward. ‘This is due to the chemistry of the material that makes it difficult to obtain good adhesion. Primus-Al is supplied as a single component liquid that is applied using the flexographic printing concept and is set using UV curing. This is a massive improvement and offers a cost effective alternative to traditional mechanical pre-treatment methods. Applications for Primus-Al include both backed and unsupported aluminum foil where we are seeing increased use in packaging and container construction such as in protective lids for dairy products.’
