S G Edge to launch flexo press

Indian machine manufacturer and supplier, S G Edge, will launch SG 340, its first flexo label printing press. Demonstrations of the new machine will take place at Labelexpo India 2018.

Santosh Kumar, CEO at S G Edge talks about the new flexo press

Santosh Kumar, CEO at S G Edge, said: ‘We will showcase it at an open house in our factory in August and then bring it to the show. Complete tooling as well as training, installation and post-sales service will be looked after by S G Edge. We have trained engineers who will be available at customer’s call any time of the day.’

The company is in the process of manufacturing the press at its factory in Noida. Other equipment manufactured at the facility includes inspection and slitting machines, core cutting machines, video plate mounters and anilox cleaning machines.

To meet customer demand and increased production, S G Edge will shift to a bigger facility in 2019. ‘With new machines and equipment, we have increased our focus on export into markets including Kenya, Nigeria, Qatar and Vietnam,’ Kumar said.

Kumar, who started his printing career as an operator in 1993, started S G Edge in September 2013. He began with trading doctor blades, anilox rollers and other ancillary equipment. Today, his company is an exclusive distributor of Swiss company Ruttiman Trade in the Indian sub-continent and offers spare parts for Gallus presses. It is also a principal of Da Shen CI letterpress label printing machines from Vietnam. Kumar and his team has installed three presses in India in the last three years, with the latest in Haridwar at Square Vision for printing lamitubes and labels.

However, Kumar says that one of the biggest installations was that of a 7-color semi-rotary intermittent letterpress from Da Shen, completed in December 2017 in Sahibabad. The machine features two in-line flatbed die-cutting units from Chinese company Hong Sheng, of which S G Edge is a dealer in India. Alongside, it also installed a JJ roll-to-roll screen printing machine and a slitting machine from Hong Sheng, two manual off-line inspection systems and a core cutting unit that was made in-house by S G Edge.

Turning to the state of used label presses in the Indian market, Kumar said: ‘There is demand for used equipment in India mainly from printers diversifying from offset to label printing. We sell at least three machines every year in addition to ancillary equipment. I see this market growing in the near future as an increasing number of commercial printers want to get a share of the more profitable and growing label industry in the country.’

With an inflow of new customers and expanding market, S G Edge is witnessing 100 percent growth year-on-year.
