Alpha-Cure has appointed Richard Cherry as its new production director, where he will play an important role in the second phase of the UV lamp manufacturer's four-year growth strategy

Cherry has joined Alpha-Cure after more than two decades with fellow UV lamp manufacturer Heraeus Amba, where he most recently served as production manager with responsibility for lamp and power supply manufacturing, as well as the technical and engineering departments. He is a member of the European Federation of National Engineering Associations (FEANI), a Chartered Engineer (CEng MIET) and a practicing Lean Six Sigma professional.

Alpha-Cure is in the second phase of a four-year growth strategy, and said Cherry will be instrumental in accelerating process improvements, leading the reorganization of the UK production floor and spearheading new product developments, while reassessing stability of processes and consistency of quality through introducing further automated control systems and internal checking procedures.

Alpha-Cure commercial director Victoria Atherstone said: ‘The appointment of Cherry falls in line with our focus on improved business processes, production floor operations and customer relations.’

Cherry said: ‘I am a few days into my new role, and very much enjoying it and looking forward to what the future holds. I felt the energy straight away, a real ambition to get things done and to be able to respond quickly to customer needs.’

He added: ‘I have been an engineer all my professional life and in the lamp industry for over 20 years, which I really enjoy as it factors many engineering disciplines, and also chemistry and physics, that I have a keen interest in.’

Alpha-Cure is also investing in the external aesthetics of its UK operations, with plans to give its manufacturing facility in Northamptonshire a makeover to update its appearance.

Cherry said: ‘I want the UK site to be a showpiece of Alpha-Cure. The Shanghai manufacturing facility is much newer, opening its doors for business in 2006. The second floor of the Alpha-Cure Asia facility was turned into offices early last year to make space for a brand new research and development department, we now plan to do the same here in the UK.’

Steve Haines, co-founder and Alpha-Cure CSO, said: ‘Richard is one of the world’s most knowledgeable experts in UV lamp technology; Alpha-Cure is delighted to have acquired his services.’
