Scantrust acquires Trust Codes

Swiss Scantrust has acquired New Zealand-based Trust Codes Global, extending its presence into the New Zealand and Australian markets while deepening its capabilities in anti-counterfeiting, product traceability and consumer engagement.

The acquisition integrates Trust Codes' assets and customer base, strengthening Scantrust's position in verticals including infant nutrition, food and beverage, and wine. The move combines Trust Codes' regional expertise with Scantrust's international technology platform, which serves some of the world's largest brands.

'Trust Codes has built a solid reputation in New Zealand and Australia, and by bringing their assets and customers into the Scantrust ecosystem, we reinforce our position as a preferred partner for brands navigating the complexities of global supply chains, GS1 Digital Link deployment and Digital Product Passport compliance,' said Nathan Anderson, CEO and co-founder of Scantrust. 'We are committed to maintaining the high standards of service that Trust Codes customers expect.'

The deal also expands Scantrust's technical capabilities, adding in-line printing and QR code serialization tools to its existing toolkit for supply chain visibility and regulatory compliance, including Digital Product Passports and GS1 Digital Link.

Labelexpo Asia 2025 review

The eleventh edition of Labelexpo Asia closed with 450 exhibitors and 14 percent visitor growth over the last show.

The eleventh edition of Labelexpo Asia closed with 450 exhibitors and 14 percent visitor growth over the last show at Shanghai’s New International Expo Centre.

Labelexpo Asia 2025 was elevated by a series of new initiatives designed to connect and promote business growth, innovation and sustainability. Attendees experienced cutting-edge technology through the Smart Label Trail and Digital Pouch Factory, engaged with a comprehensive educational program featuring expert seminars and masterclasses, celebrated excellence at the Label Industry China Awards, and maximized business connections in the new Global Connect Hub, a dedicated VIP zone designed for international buyers.

Digital press technology

The show was notable for the number of companies showing digital print and embellishment equipment.

HP launched its new HP Indigo 6K+ and HP Indigo 200K presses in the Asia-Pacific region. The HP Indigo 6K+ digital press includes AI-powered tools, including HP Spot Master, allowing a 30 percent increase in speed and a 45 percent boost in productivity compared to the previous model. Label converter Supvan signed for the first HP Indigo 6K+ in China during the show.

The HP Indigo 200K was demonstrated as part of the Digital Pouch Factory, demonstrating a complete workflow from prepress to printing, lamination and manufacturing, including pillow-type packaging and stand-up pouches. Shandong Yaxin signed for its third HP Indigo flexible packaging press at the show. Yaxin installed their HP Indigo 25k in 2021 and a 20000 in 2023. Gao Hui, general manager of Shandong Yaxin said, ‘HP Indigo not only offers advanced printing technology, but also promotes our innovation and business model transformation in the flexible packaging field. In the future, we will deepen our cooperation with HP Indigo and jointly promote the development of digital printing in China.’

Toner technology

Xeikon debuted its entry-level subscription-model press, the Ecolyne, for the Asia-Pacific market, allowing converters to enter the digital market without making a large Capex investment. The 330mm-wide Ecolyne press uses the same core imaging technology as Xeikon’s existing CX-series toner presses, printing at 25 m/min at 1,200 DPI resolution with the ability to run substrates from coated or uncoated paper to PP (white or clear), PET and metallized film. By subscribing to label printing capacity rather than owning the hardware, converters can scale production when needed and sidestep a heavy initial investment.

‘In many parts of Asia, the label printing scene is changing fast,’ said Xeikon president Walter Benz. ‘Small to mid-sized converters also see increasing demand for shorter runs and faster turnaround. They need access to digital label printing capacity now. That’s why we bring Ecolyne to Asia first. We see a strong need here for simple, reliable digital production without the burden of ownership.’

Konica Minolta showcased the AccurioLabel 230 and 400 presses. The latter, its latest full-color digital label press, boasts 39.9 m/min speed, 3,600×2,400 DPI resolution and the IQ 520 intelligent quality monitoring system, significantly boosting production efficiency.

Vorey showed its Color DLP V3 high-resolution wide-format digital label printer, offering a speed of 7.26m/min and 1,200 X 2,400 DPI resolution.

Epson launched its latest water-based inkjet technology with the SurePress L-5034, boasting print resolution up to 1,200 X 1,200 DPI and broad material compatibility. The press is targeted at applications where food safety is key, including food, toy, and medical industries.’

Pulisi showed its WD-790 full-color water-based digital press tailored for flexible packaging. With 1,200 DPI resolution, CMYK+W+W configuration, and speeds up to 60m/min (depending on material), it handles 12 to 80 micron PET/BOPP and 80–350g coated paper substrates.

UV inkjet

Weigang showed its WG S350 Ultra and WG S230 UV inkjet presses. The WG S350 Ultra has a printing speed of up to 60m/min, print width of up to 350mm and print resolution up to 1,200 X 600 DPI. The compact WG S230 digital press can be used both for customized printing and for proofing, with a print width of up to 230mm.

Zonten showcased the ZTD-235 digital press using Epson’s S3200 printhead, with five colors (CMYK+W) covering around 85 percent of the Pantone color gamut. The opaque white allows printing on transparent and metallic materials.

General Inkjet Printing (GIP) showcased its Label Smart and Label Ultra digital presses. The Label Smart series focuses on low investment costs, CMYK + double white configuration. The Label Ultra series features an upgraded 1,200 DPI high-definition printhead.

Pulisi showed its DSMART-220 / 220Pro UV inkjet presses. The Pro version offers 1,200 X 1,200 DPI resolution with a maximim speed of 150m/min. Both models support CMYK and optional white inks.

Arojet showcased the ilabel-330 digital press printing at 1,200 × 600 DPI resolution, and Yutian showed its HGP digital press, with 1,200 X 1,200 DPI resolution.

UPG demonstrated the LQ-MD UV330 integrated UV inkjet press combining printing, laminating, cutting and slitting functions. It is equipped with Epson i3200-U1 printheads supporting CMYK+V+W inks. Also on display was the company’s handheld inkjet marking products.

Grando debuted its GR350S high-speed digital label press and the AJ330E multifunctional digital label printer. The GR350S has a maximum print width of 350mm and a speed of 20–50m/min. The AJ330E integrates post-press modules including lamination, die-cutting, waste removal, slitting, and rewinding. Compatible with UV or water-based inks, it supports a 330mm print width and outputs at 30–50m/hour.

Yintech showcased its digital inkjet label press, featuring a modular production setup integrating coating, printing, varnishing, and hot stamping.

Hybrid technology

Hybrid printing technology, which combines digital printing technology with traditional flexo printing, was a highlight of Labelexpo Asia 2025.

GIP demonstrated its Label Modular series, which is a joint project with flexo press manufacturer Spande. The Falcon series features a movable digital printing platform that can be installed on existing flexo production lines.

Weigang showed the servo-driven ZJR S350 Pro Hybrid flexo/digital press, which uses sleeve technology for the flexo units, which are seamlessly integrated with the digital print engine. The company is one of the few in the industry that offers both conventional and digital printing technologies, giving them a significant advantage in the integration of the two technologies.

Pulisi showed the DPIM-330F UV inkjet press with a new modular design, with customizable flexo modules, hot stamping, spot colors (violet, orange, green), digital cold stamping/varnish, reverse printing, intermittent die-cutting, lamination and defect management systems.

Hanlabel showed its LabStar 330HD hybrid press, which features 1,200 DPI resolution, offers speeds of up to 80–120m/min (max width 322mm) and supports flexible combinations like 8-color digital, flexo printing, cold foil and die-cutting.

Runtianzhi presented the Flora Orca 350 digital press, featuring an integrated modular design with printing, cold stamping, varnishing and laminating. Supporting CMYK+W+OVG output, the machine has a production speed of 75m/min, paired with 1,200 X 1,200 DPI resolution. ‘Equipped with intelligent nozzle compensation technology and an automatic cleaning/moisturizing system, it minimizes maintenance downtime, boosts overall equipment utilization, and is particularly suited to medium- to short-run and multi-batch label orders,’ said Sunny Yu, general manager of Runtianzhi.

Conventional press technology

For conventional printing technology, flexographic press today has the main market share in China, and this technology is also converging towards automation and AI.

Taiyo Kikai showcased the STF-340/STF-440 series flexo printing press with chilled cylinder technology enabling a wide range of materials to be handled, including paper labels, stickers, films and composites, such as PP, PE, PE, with thicknesses ranging from 20 to 300 microns.

Omet promoted the KFlex sleeve-based press featuring the Switch fast-change system, which lets printers adapt press setups to production needs.

Brotech debuted its FFX530 flexographic press in the Asia market, following the launch at Labelexp Europe 2025. The machine features AI-driven closed-loop control designed to reduce manual adjustments during setup and operation. The system automatically handles routine corrections for ink conditions and environmental conditions, allowing operators to focus on monitoring production conditions and managing quality control.

‘The press attracted visitors from China, Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas, with over 300 companies conducting technical discussions at the booth,’ shared Ramon Lee, managing director of Brotech. ‘Interest came from converters in labels, flexible packaging, pharmaceutical and food packaging sectors, plus material suppliers, ink manufacturers and inspection system providers.’

Weigang showed its ZJR series flexo press, which is designed for labels, in-mold labels and flexible packaging applications down to 12 microns. Also showing was the ZX series offset press suitable for premium wine labels and short-run projects that demand speed and versatility.

Spande showcased its S7 and S5 flexo presses. The 450mm-wide S7 model was configured with 12-color flexo printing units and dual die-cutting units, with full LED UV and hot-air-drying systems. The S5 flexo press, developed to meet the needs of the mid-range market, was showcased with 12 colors and lamination and cold foil units.

Zonten showed its ZTR-370 and TEBA-450 flexo presses.

Hongsheng showcased the EFLEX-370/430/530Pro and S-300/400 flexo presses. The EFLEX-370/430/530Pro features 37 servo motors (10 printing units and one die-cutting unit). The S-300/400 flexo press is designed for printing on laminated tubes and PET films. It also handles self-adhesive labels, in-mold labels and paperboard.

‘I am very optimistic about the development of flexographic printing technology. Currently, our flexographic printing machines are not only applied in labels but also in other fields such as flexible packaging and folding carton,’ said Ruan Jinshu, CEO of Hongsheng.

Hontec showcased its FlexiCon flexo presses for self-adhesive labels, shrink sleeves, IML and wet-glue labels. The print stations feature dual independent servo motors per unit with speeds up to 150m/min. The company demonstrated an inline folding carton workflow at the show.

Dowell presented the PF series flexo press, designed for printing ﬂexible tube laminates and PET ﬁlms. It can also print self-adhesive labels, in-mold labels and folding cartons. This machine uses a large chill drum which maintains a constant substrate temperature and achieves a short material path between printing stations. It combines automatic pre-registration technology and a color measurement system, significantly reducing material changeover time and waste.

Qianrun displayed three flagship presses: the S5-370, S6-450, and flexo logistics label press. The S6-450 is configured with dual independent servo motors per print unit, enabling automatic pre-registration, complemented by a UV/LED curing system and water-cooled impression cylinder. The flexo logistics label press boasts a streamlined new design with dual web paths. Equipped with optional lamination, waste removal and folding stations, it achieves full-process logistics label production at 120m/min, including multi-layer label capabilities.

Jmetech showcased the N6 450 fully servo-driven flexographic press with a 27in repeat-length and water-cooled impression cylinder for accurate material transport. It handles a wide range of substrates, from 12-micron PET, 15 micron BOPP and PVC to 20-micron aluminum foil, in-mold labels, toothpaste tubes, various self-adhesives, including clear-on-clear, and paper/cardstock from 30 to 500 g/sqm.

Daba showcased its DBRY-L8370H flexographic press, boasting 28 servo motors in total for this 8-color press, with three motors to each print station.

Semi-rotary flexo is not a new technology, with the key advantage of reducing users' investment in different-sized rollers.

At the show, Rhyguan debuted its RF-330 semi/full rotary flexo printing machine with a 330mm format size.

Wanjie showed the WJLZ350 intermittent flexo press adopting a modular design, which can be combined with processes like offset, screen printing, hot stamping, die-cutting and variable information printing.

Caisheng launched its CS-J380F intermittent flexo press at the show. The machine is designed for small-batch, multi-SKU jobs while supporting medium to long runs at a top speed of 60m/min. It integrates in-line finishing, including die-cutting, cold foil, backside printing, varnishing and lamination, in a single pass.

Hochen showcased its new intermittent flexo press for small-to-medium batch and sampling applications. Its sleeve plate cylinder and direct motor drive ensures stable, low-noise operation, while enabling quick plate changes to cut setup time. The company signed an Indian distributor, Packnology, at the show.

Digital finishing

Digital finishing technology is regarded as a technology with great growth potential, including both digital embellishment and laser/stylus die-cutting technology.

Sapa/DMS showed a range of digital embellishment machines, including the web-fed models DMS330WFR, 330W, and 1050WP2, and the sheet-fed model ST600S2, which offers a diverse range of effects, including spot UV, 3D embossing, cast cure, holograms and Braille. It integrates hot and cold stamping. These machines are widely used in flexible packaging, labels, shrink sleeves and folding cartons.

Reborn displayed its RBJ-Remix 3DW 850 digital embellishment and RBJ-Ares350 digital die-cutting machines.

The RBJ-Remix 3DW 850 features a double-row print head arrangement to support a range of tactile effects. Its advanced water-cooling system ensures compatibility with a wide range of flexible materials for printing and foiling. The RBJ-Ares350 digital die-cutting machine features a water-cooled cutting head and an automated workflow system. The machine offers optional QR code scanning for automatic job changes to streamline production, and it eliminates the need for die plates.

Hongsheng Machinery debuted its first digital enhancement press, equipped with Konica Minolta printheads. Boasting a running speed of 60 m/min, the new system garnered extensive attention from attendees at the event.

Ecoographic displayed its EcoSpark DS 330 digital label embellishment technology, which supports UV spot varnishing, cold foil stamping, braille printing, 3D embossing, and variable data printing. It offers up to 1,440 X 360 DPI resolution, a standard 288mm (extendable to 430mm) printing width and a top speed of 50m/min, with varnish thickness from 180 to 350 microns.

Iecho showcased the LCT2 laser die-cutting machine and the LCS sheet-fed laser die-cutting system. The Iecho LCT2 laser die-cutting machine integrates automatic deviation-correction and automatic waste removal. The platform is suitable for different processing modes such as roll-to-roll, roll-to-sheet and sheet-to-sheet. The LCS Intelligent High-Speed Sheet-Fed Laser Die-Cutting System integrates automatic loading/unloading, conveying, alignment correction and processing. Designed for sheet-fed adhesive materials, it supports full, half and perforation cutting without dies.

Darui displayed its D-S9 and D-J5 digital die-cutting machines. The D-S9 digital die-cutting machine features CCD positioning speed of 0.1 seconds per cut, fully automatic knife pressure adjustment, and mobile remote control. The D-J5 laser die-cutting machine offers a 60m/min max speed, plus functions like laminating, die-cutting, waste removal, sheet cutting and rewinding.

Golden Laser showcased its roll-fed LC-350 and sheet-fed LC-5035 die-cutting machines. The LC-350 integrates three core functions: die-cutting, slitting and sheet cutting. Meanwhile, the LC-5035 is a dedicated die-cutting solution engineered for small-format sheet materials, integrated with a high-precision vision recognition system.

Vorey showed the AuraSpark DM3 UV digital embellishment system, AuraCut A8 die-cutting and AuraCut A6 die-cutting machines. The AuraSpark DM3 UV digital embellishment system eliminates the need for hot stamping plates, enabling spot varnish, 3D embossing, hot stamping and braille. The AuraCut A8 is an eight-blade, single-station, intelligent, high-speed label die-cutter. It enables 10-second job changeovers and reaches a die-cutting speed of 15m/min. The AuraCut A6 is a six-blade die-cutter, with 10-second changeovers and a 12m/min die-cutting speed.

Vicut showcased a full range of digital label die-cutters, from entry-level to industrial-grade. Integrating laminating, die-cutting, slitting, waste removal, and rewinding in one platform, different models offer full-cut/roll-to-sheet versatility. These machines boast advanced CCD positioning with 0.1mm repeat accuracy. Capable of handling stickers, paper, PP, PET and more, they serve the beverage, food, chemical and other industries.

Ada showed its ULC350 laser die-cutter, integrating full-process functionalities including automatic material conveying and automatic waste stripping. It supports roll-to-roll and roll-to-sheet processing modes. Targeting non-metallic substrates like self-adhesive materials, PVC films and cardboard, the machine executes full cutting, half cutting and hole punching, making it ideal for personalized customization scenarios.

Rhyguan showed the Plus-330 value-added converting machine, which combines flexo printing, hot stamping, digital embellishment, rotary die-cutting and slitting.

Brotech showed its SDF Plus 370, a smart modular digital label finishing system. Its patented intermittent flexo unit enables quick switching between intermittent and rotary modes, with 330/370/420/520 size options and bidirectional workflow for optimal adaptability. It supports add-ons such as lamination, standard cold foil, inline flatbed hot foil stamping, screen/digital embellishment, plus semi-rotary, flatbed, or laser die-cutting.

Mark Andy has appointed Tham Zee Cheng as regional sales manager for Asia and added two service engineers to its regional team to strengthen its presence across China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan and Southeast Asia.

Tham brings more than ten years of experience in the technology and industrial sectors, including the packaging and label industries. In her new role, she is responsible for driving press sales and strengthening cooperation with customers and partners across the region, managing distribution networks and building long-term relationships with key accounts.

Inkjet technology has evolved from an alternative to analogue printing into the backbone of modern print and packaging production, according to Jack Malki, director at Jet Technologies, who highlights how industrial printheads are enabling capabilities previously impossible at digital speeds.

Malki points to Xaar's piezoelectric drop-on-demand platform, which can jet fluids up to 100 centipoise viscosity, opening possibilities for high-build varnishes, textured embellishments and dense pigments normally tied to screen or plate processes.

'This capability matters because it expands what printers can offer,' said Malki. 'Add recirculation to keep pigments in suspension, self-cleaning features to reduce downtime and high-laydown options for thicker layers, and you get a platform designed for consistent, repeatable production rather than one-off digital jobs.'

The director describes a shift toward what he terms 'Label Typography', where brand owners can contour print in the third dimension with multiple heights and effects. Jet Technologies' Jet iQ embellishment range, powered by Xaar's Versatex Printbar, demonstrates this capability, allowing converters to achieve screen-like results with digital agility across varying SKU counts.

According to Malki, beyond embellishment, high-viscosity jetting offers practical advantages in corrugated production, where thicker inks reduce water on board, cutting drying time and energy use. Digital workflows also eliminate screens, foils and consumables, while room-temperature jetting reduces energy demand.

'The bigger picture is that the future of print will be driven by technology that combines creativity with serious manufacturing performance,' stated Malki. 'Short-run customization, luxury packaging and more sustainable production models are only going to grow, and advanced inkjet platforms are perfectly positioned to support that shift.'

Malki notes that Xaar's printhead technology originates from demanding industrial sectors including automotive, glass, electronics and renewable energy, bringing reliability and durability to packaging applications. Developments like the ImagineX roadmap and advanced waveform control will enable jetting of an even wider range of fluids for tactile finishes, protective layers and functional coatings.

Reflex Labels installs Xaar Versatex Printbar

Australia-based Reflex Labels has installed a Xaar Versatex Printbar at its new site in Adelaide, branded as Reflex Labelplus Australia, to focus on high-end label embellishment for the wine and premium drinks markets.

The installation, facilitated by Jet Technologies, includes the Versatex Printbar mounted on the Jet IQ M370, enabling Reflex to produce labels with high-build varnishes, textured effects and vibrant finishes in a single digital pass.

'We're proud to support Reflex with cutting-edge technologies like Versatex that enable production of creative and innovative premium labels,' said Shane Sullivan, national manager, print division at Jet Technologies. 'This installation highlights the strength of our working partnership with Xaar and our shared commitment to delivering world-class capabilities to label printers in our region.'

The Versatex Printbar jets high-viscosity fluids and handles a wide range of substrates, allowing brands to create standout labels with textured and high-build print effects, cold foils, spot varnishes and high-opacity whites.

'The addition of the Jet IQ and Versatex Printbar represents a significant investment in quality and innovation,' noted Jim Chatzopoulos, managing director Asia Pacific, Reflex Labels & Packaging. 'These technologies enable us to deliver premium, high-impact label options with exceptional precision and speed.'

The Adelaide site marks a milestone in the evolution of digital print for wine and spirit labels in Australia, with potential expansion into cosmetics and nutraceuticals.

Jet Technologies has worked with Reflex Labels & Packaging for over three years, delivering advanced digital print capabilities. The company continues to bring global innovations like Xaar's Versatex to the Australian and New Zealand markets.

Jiangtian Technology has officially listed on the Beijing Stock Exchange (BSE), making it the first Chinese label converter to do so.

Founded in 1992, Jiangtian Technology holds various authoritative certifications, including ‘National Printing Demonstration Enterprise’, ‘Jiangsu Provincial Specialized, Refined, Differential and Innovative SME’, and ‘Jiangsu Provincial Green Factory’. These honors underscore its comprehensive strength in technology, management and sustainable development.

The company focuses on R&D, production and sales of label products, with core offerings covering film-based and paper-based self-adhesive labels. These products are widely applied in daily consumption sectors such as beverages, alcohol, daily chemicals, food, health products and petrochemicals, providing customers with one-stop integrated label printing tailored to their needs.

By focusing on the mid-to-high-end consumer brand label market, Jiangtian Technology has successfully entered the supply chains of numerous domestic and international brands, including Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Shell, Wyeth, Nongfu Spring, Yili, Mengniu, Haitian and HeyTea. The total funds raised from this listing reach 280 million RMB (40.26 million USD), which will be fully allocated to the intelligent production line construction project and the technology R&D center project. The company plans to introduce high-end printing equipment to expand production capacity and upgrade intelligent manufacturing levels, further optimizing production efficiency and product quality.

Upon the completion of these projects, Jiangtian Technology will consolidate its large-scale production advantages, refine its product structure and better meet downstream consumer brands’ demands for high-quality and customized labels, paving the way for leapfrog development.

Financial data shows that the company has maintained steady growth in recent years. In 2024, it achieved an operating income of 538 million RMB (77.36 million USD) and a net profit attributable to shareholders of 102 million RMB (14.67 million USD), demonstrating robust profitability and significant development potential.

Huang Yanguo, general manager of Jiangtian Technology, stated that the listing on the BSE marks a new starting point for the company’s development. He also expressed his gratitude for the trust and support from all customers and partners. Looking ahead, the company will continue to increase investment in technological R&D, deepen cooperation in core sectors including food and beverage and daily chemicals, and actively expand new business segments such as smart labels, shrink sleeves and flexible packaging, in alignment with the industry’s trends of intelligence and green development.

Dongding builds flexible service with digital printing

Moving from sheet-fed to web-fed flexo and digital printing, Dongding is deepening its digital transformation journey.

Founded in 2014 and located in Tianqiao District, Jinan City, Shandong Province, Dongding specializes in self-adhesive label production. Its products are widely used in sectors such as health supplements, food and pharmaceuticals.

In June 2025, Dongding relocated to a new factory covering 5,000sqm and equipped with a wide range of equipment, including flexo, offset and digital.

New business model

Sun Shasha, general manager of Dongding, explains that before the current company was founded in 2014, its main business was selling barcode printers, scanners, blank labels and blank die-cutting services. After seeing the decorated label business growing, Sun Shasha and her husband officially registered Dongding in 2014, marking a new phase of their business.

‘Label printing and barcode printer industries share many similarities. Both have relatively low investment and technical thresholds, leading to intense competition as the market matures. So, from the start, we made it clear: Our business must be founded on the premise of ensuring quality and delivery of premium services,’ says Sun Shasha.

All orders are tracked through the entire process from raw materials, printing, post-press processing, warehousing and delivery to customers, and any issues are resolved in the shortest possible time. ‘We are more service providers than printers. Only by striving to satisfy customers in every detail can we achieve their long-term loyalty,’ she adds.

The success of this strategy is evident: Existing customers now account for 60 to 70 percent of the company’s client base.

Tech trial to capacity upgrade

Dongding has always kept a close eye on digital printing technology. The company first installed a Xerox sheet-fed digital press. ‘At that time, small-run orders were scarce, so the machine sat idle for a long time. I even questioned myself if this was a flaw, whether it was an internal issue or a mismatch with customers,’ says Sun Shasha.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, demand for small-run orders surged, and the idle machine was put back into use. After that, Dongding further expanded its digital printing capacity by adding a Konica Minolta AccurioLabel 190.

Increasing volumes of short-run work soon led the company to consider investment in a new digital press to boost capacity.

The decisive factor in choosing the Konica Minolta AccurioLabel 400 was a request from an overseas client for a new product launch with tight deadlines.

After the press was installed in November 2024, Dongding shifted all short-run orders to the new equipment.

‘Compared to the previous model, the new machine adds white ink functionality, which is ideal for film label printing and what our core need. Over 60 percent of our labels are now film-based,’ she notes.

To handle digital orders efficiently, Dongding hired dedicated pre-press operators.

‘Digital printing lowers the skills requirements for machine operators but raises them for pre-press file handling, especially color control. Unlike traditional printing, where ink can be adjusted to modify colors, digital printing uses specific inks, so the pressure of color control falls entirely on pre-press technicians,’ explains Sun Shasha.

Dongding has also invested in new digital embellishment equipment for processes like varnish and foil stamping.

People-centric path

Dongding currently has over 40 employees, and they adhere to a ‘people-oriented’ philosophy.

‘Our equipment is usually updated every four to five years. When we moved to this new factory, we phased out our old offset printing machines and invested in three new Zonten intermittent offset presses. High-quality hardware not only ensures product quality but also provides employees with a better operating platform. New equipment and technology boost work efficiency and reduce waste,’ says Sun Shasha.

Additionally, Dongding has established a Mutual Assistance Fund, which is funded by revenues generated from waste reduction efforts. Beyond a monthly salary, employees receive supplementary medical benefits covering themselves and their family members, in addition to basic medical insurance. The company also directly provides elderly care allowances to employees’ parents every month.

‘A large proportion of our staff are long-term employees, many of whom have been with us since the company’s early days,’ Sun Shasha says.

To meet future industry challenges, Shasha believes companies should secure reasonable profit margins instead of competing for orders solely through low prices. ‘Building differentiated competitiveness, such as high-quality products and services, and flexible production capabilities, is the key.’

Going forward, Dongding will deepen its focus on digital printing and digital post-press processing, while expanding into other printing areas like corrugated and non-woven fabrics to meet existing clients’ label needs and beyond.

Xinma transforms with Flora

Having started its digital journey in 2021, Xinma is now planning its fourth press investment.

Focused on the tire label sector, Xinma has leveraged digital printing technology as the cornerstone of its business. By enhancing quality, improving efficiency and concentrating on high-value clients, it has blazed a trail for the digital transformation of the traditional label converter.

Founded in 2007 in Yantai, Shandong Province, Xinma relocated to its current factory in 2018. Presently, it employs over 50 staff, with a total workshop area of 4,500sqm. The company’s core clientele includes renowned Chinese tire brands such as Linglong, Chengshan, Sailun, Haohua, Hengfeng, Yongsheng, Fengyuan, Xinghongyuan and Formax.

From diversification to specialization

Tian Xuping, founder of Xinma, has been engaged in the printing industry for nearly 30 years. He witnessed the industry’s initial period of rapid growth, but now, like everyone else, faces increasingly fierce competition.

Xuping’s printing career began with bill printing for government institutions, including post offices and electric power bureaus.

Later, the company attempted to expand into new business areas, including label printing, gifts and catering. The gift and catering businesses were eventually shut down as its label printing business achieved rapid success. In June 2008, Xuping reorganized the company, renaming it Xinma Super Label and establishing a strategy focused on tire labels.

‘This decision was based on two considerations. First, the industrial foundation of Yantai and its surrounding areas: 70 percent of the world’s tires are produced in China. Tire enterprises in Yantai alone account for about 60 percent of the national total, presenting significant industrial cluster advantages.

Second, the logic of long-term development means, rather than being an all-encompassing but unrefined multi-category supplier, it is better to deepen our presence in a segmented fi eld and strive to become a leader in that industry,’ Xuping explains.

Xinma expanded its production facilities. The company added 11 intermittent letterpress presses. In response to the special characteristics of tire labels – large in size, and requiring specialist materials – Xinma invested in coating equipment to produce its own self-adhesive labels, achieving quality and cost control over the entire supply chain. Additionally, its own intermittent gluing technology has solved an industry pain point of glue overflow after application, further consolidating its technological advantage.

Digital transformation

Xinma’s digital printing journey began in 2019, with an investment in a second-hand digital press.

In 2021, Xinma installed its first Flora J-330 digital press in Shandong Province, gradually shifting small-run orders to this digital production line. ‘The print-on-demand model enabled by the digital press not only enables rapid response to customers’ urgent needs but also helps to optimize inventory management and achieve lean production,’ he explains.

Xinma soon found that the long-term savings in plates, time, labor and inventory far outweighed the additional cost of digital inks. The company workers also gradually adapted to the fast-paced delivery model of digital production.

In 2023, the company added another Flora digital press to expand capacity. In March 2025, the third Flora press, Model J-350GT, was put into operation.

‘After nearly six years of experience with digital printing technology, we found that, just like traditional flexographic, offset and letterpress printing, digital technology is not a one-size-fits-all technology,’ Xuping states. ‘So, in addition to considering the equipment itself, the supplier’s service response capability is crucial. This is why we have always chosen Flora digital machines.

Its after-sales service and response speed are extremely fast. For example, when we reported an issue with uneven laminating, the manufacturer quickly optimized the technology and applied it to its new-generation machines. This is the core reason for our long-term cooperation with Flora,’

Today, short-run orders of 100-200 sheets (as the production mode of tire labels is roll-to-sheet) account for 70 percent of Xinma’s total orders, and digital printing contributes half of its total revenue, becoming a key driver of the company’s business growth.

Ecosystem expansion

Xinma operates in an intensely competitive market environment. Facing cost control pressures from brand clients, the company has maintained steady growth by leveraging its years of experience in in-house raw material production, equipment operation and maintenance, and quality control management.

Xuping has a clear plan for the future. Xinma plans to install a fourth Flora digital press and, at the same time, gradually reduce the number of letterpress printing machines to two or three units for special orders. Additionally, in 2026, the company plans to invest in flexographic and offset combination presses.

Xinma will expand into automotive-related label fields such as engine oil and adhesive labels. The company also plans to develop its own range of adhesives to reduce its reliance on the raw materials supply chain, and will attempt to replace release papers with release films to help clients achieve their sustainability goals.

Edale has appointed PT Samafitro as its distributor for Indonesia, extending the flexographic press manufacturer's reach in Southeast Asia through a partner offering sales, installation and service support.

PT Samafitro, a Jakarta-based industrial printing and finishing provider, will distribute Edale's LabelLine and CartonLine platforms to label and carton converters across Indonesia. The company already carries Canon technologies and brings deep experience in digital and packaging printing.

'We're thrilled to partner with Samafitro,' commented Ryan Barrett, head of sales APAC for Edale. 'Their strong presence and local service capabilities make them ideal distributors for Edale in Indonesia. The distribution agreement follows Edale's recent showcase at Labelexpo Europe 2025, where it demonstrated its CartonLine FL6p press with live production of integrated carton applications.
