Apex names Harvey commercial VP

Apex International has appointed Nick Harvey as global commercial vice president, a role in which he will lead the development of the company's global commercial strategy and capabilities.

Harvey has spent 26 years at Apex, with a career spanning sales, technical director and vice president of sales. He will work with the regional managing directors to strengthen commercial leadership, collaboration and performance across the group, with a focus on profitable growth through common standards, technical expertise and a consistent approach to customer value. He will also help connect market requirements with product development and investment priorities.

The appointment adds to Apex's global leadership structure. Group CEO Ruud van Cuijk leads the executive leadership team and is responsible for executing the agreed strategy and managing the group's operations.

'Nick combines deep technical knowledge with commercial leadership and longstanding customer relationships. His experience across Apex gives him a clear understanding of where we can create greater value and how to turn that opportunity into action. Sun Chemical has announced it will showcase low-migration UV LED inks, digital primers and sustainability technologies for label and package printing at the TLMI Annual Meeting 2026, held at the Marriott Harbor Beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on October 25 to 27.

Low-migration UV LED technology for food, beverage, health and personal care packaging is the main focus. The inks are engineered for press speeds above 1,000 feet per minute, and multipurpose systems support both surface and reverse printing to reduce inventory complexity, costs and downtime. The digital primers and coatings range includes SunEvo Seam-Thru Digital Primer and SunEvo General Purpose Digital Primer, along with matte and tactile specialty coatings.

The company will also feature ultra-low-monomer adhesives, plus UV, UV LED, water-based, solvent-based, EB and conventional offset products for labels, flexible packaging and paper packaging, alongside pressroom consumables, dispensing technologies and technical services. Its sustainability range includes SolvaWash washable inks that support label recycling, Solimax AP compostable inks and coatings for produce labels, and Duratort PFC nitrocellulose-alternative technologies.

Sun Chemical specialists will also highlight analytical testing, global regulatory expertise, biodegradation assessments, sustainability consulting and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) tools.

Fujifilm has announced a global strategic alliance with ePac Flexible Packaging, a digital flexible packaging company. At the heart of the new partnership is the Fujifilm J Press FP790. The relationship between the two companies underlines Fujifilm’s commitment to bringing digital flexible packaging into mainstream printing.

The partnership with Fujifilm, and the technology of the Fujifilm J Press FP790, will enable ePac to continue to deliver value across every stage of a brand's growth. The initial J Press FP790 deployment begins in North America, with a press installation at ePac’s new facility in Phoenix, Arizona, to be followed with a planned fleet expansion across ePac's global network in future phases.

Q360 acquires Flexo Factor

Q360 Group has acquired The Flexo Factor, a Monroe, North Carolina-based supplier of flexographic cleaning supplies, pressroom equipment and on-site training and consulting, as it builds a single-source pressroom partner for flexo printers and converters, with terms of the deal not disclosed.

The Flexo Factor brings 30 years of anilox cleaning research and a full catalog of anilox, plate and press cleaning products, together with an online purchasing portal, on-site training, consulting and a technical help line. It strengthens the Consumables & Supplies pillar of Q360, which sits alongside its Parts, Equipment and Services pillars, and expands the cleaning range already offered through its Supercell ultrasonic roll cleaning systems. Q360 also carries a range of tapes as a licensed 3M Master Distributor, alongside Tesa and other brands.

The deal is the latest step in an acquisition program led by CEO Todd Sweeney. 'The Flexo Factor has spent 30 years solving one of the most persistent problems in the pressroom: keeping anilox rolls and plates clean so presses run at full productivity,' said Sweeney. 'Steve and his team built a brand that converters trust, and we intend to build on it, not change it. This acquisition continues our strategy of partnering with founder-led businesses that share our commitment to the flexographic industry, and we welcome conversations with owners who are thinking about their next chapter.'

For The Flexo Factor's customers nothing changes on day one, as the same team, products, online portal and help line remain in place, with Q360's parts, equipment and field service now available through a single relationship. Windmöller and Hölscher (W&H) has introduced Oneflex, a modular central impression (CI) flexographic press for flexible packaging, offering production speeds of up to 600m/min and printing widths of up to 1,650mm.

Available with eight or 10 color decks, the press features a newly developed print deck designed to improve print stability. Its modular architecture allows printers to configure the machine around their production requirements.

According to W&H, Oneflex brings a format range to this segment that was previously available only in its premium machine portfolio. The design also focuses on improved accessibility, simplified handling and easier operation.

Holger Kreilkamp, director of product management at W&H, said: ‘ONEFLEX is not just another CI flexo press. It is a new machine that brings key strengths of W&H CI flexo technology together in one machine.’

He added: ‘The new print deck, the modular architecture and the operator-focused design are all built around what printers need in daily production: stable print quality, high output, easier operation and the flexibility to meet changing production requirements.’

Safety was another development priority. W&H describes Oneflex as its safest CI flexo press to date, combining advanced safety features with an operator-oriented layout and improved access.

The company will also offer Oneflex Ultimate, a higher-performance configuration with production speeds of up to 700m/min, an extended repeat length, enhanced print stability and additional technologies.

Oneflex will be officially presented at Pack Expo International in Chicago, US, on October 18, 2026.

Edale, a Canon company and UK-based manufacturer of flexographic printing and converting equipment, has secured its first machine sale through Canon USA, with New York Label & Box Works investing in a LabelLine FL4p. The sale marks a milestone in Edale's expansion in the US label and packaging market.

The FL4p will be New York Label & Box Works’ third Edale press. The repeat investment builds on a longstanding relationship between the two businesses and establishes a new route to market for Edale through Canon USA.
The sale follows Loupe Americas 2026 in Chicago from September 15-17, where Edale demonstrated the FL4p live on the Canon stand as part of Canon’s wider label and packaging portfolio. It provides an early commercial example of how Edale’s flexographic technology can be combined with Canon USA’s local market presence and customer support.

For New York Label & Box Works, the investment adds further production capability to its existing Edale press base. The FL4p is designed to improve the economics of short-run flexographic label production, using automation to shorten job changeovers and reduce material waste. Its modular design also gives converters scope to adapt production capability as requirements change.

Steve Haedrich, CEO of New York Label & Box Works, said: 'We already know Edale and have experience with its presses in our production environment, which gave us confidence in making another investment. The FL4p gives us a platform designed to make short-run production more efficient while providing the flexibility we need as customer requirements change.

'Canon USA’s involvement was also important to the process. Having that local relationship and support around the technology gives us further confidence in the investment.'

Rob Brown, sales and marketing director at Edale, said: 'Securing our first machine sale through Canon USA is an important commercial milestone for Edale. It is especially significant that it comes from New York Label & Box Works, which is now investing in a third Edale press.

'That repeat investment gives us a strong proof point from a customer that already knows how Edale equipment performs in production. Canon USA’s involvement also demonstrates the potential of bringing our specialist flexographic expertise together with its commercial reach and local customer support in the US.'

Edale is continuing to work with Canon USA to give converters access to flexographic production technology backed by local support, with a focus on helping customers improve production performance and protect the long-term value of their investment.

The Foundation of Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) has opened nominations for the 2027 FTA Hall of Fame, recognizing individuals whose leadership, service and contributions have made a lasting impact on FTA and the flexographic printing industry.

The FTA Hall of Fame honors individuals who have demonstrated a longstanding commitment to advancing flexographic technology, supporting industry education and training, and serving the association and its members.

Eligible nominees must be or have been an FTA member for a minimum of 10 years. They must have a recognized contribution to FTA’s mission to further the technology of the flexographic printing industry, a historic business relationship and connection to flexographic printing, and have provided distinctive service to FTA and/or standards organizations on behalf of FTA. They must also have been actively involved with education and training programs for the advancement of the industry as recognized by FTA.

'Being inducted into the FTA Hall of Fame is the ultimate honor. It means you have contributed to and dedicated a professional career advancing flexo technology, education and the FTA's goals and mission,' said Jean Engelke, Hall of Fame committee chair. 'This recognition does not come without commitment, personal perseverance and very hard work. Nominations for this award are the first step toward attainment. Current HOF members evaluate nominees and, based on all of these values, ethics and achievements, select the next inductee. It is truly an award of a culmination of a lifetime commitment to the flexographic industry and the FTA.'

FTA encourages members of the flexographic community to consider the individuals who have influenced the industry through their knowledge, leadership and service and submit a nomination on their behalf.

Nominations for individuals to be considered for the 2027 FTA Hall of Fame must be submitted by December 31, 2026, at 5 pm ET.

Rotocon made a strong debut at Loupe Americas, held September 15-17 in Chicago, at booth 719 alongside its North American partner Rotocon USA. The company demonstrated a fully integrated live production line and announced multiple equipment orders secured during the show.

Rotocon USA said it sold 11 machines during Loupe Americas, spanning its flexographic printing, digital finishing, slitting and converting portfolio, including the complete live demonstration line showcased at booth 719. According to Rotocon USA, the orders bring the company’s total machine sales to 20 to date, reflecting growing customer interest in Rotocon technology among North American converters. The company continues to develop its local sales, service, spare parts and technical support capabilities as it invests in its long-term presence in the region.

The Rotocon RFP multi-servo, cylinder-based flexo press was the centerpiece of its first Loupe Americas exhibition. The 450mm (17in), 8-color press ran three live demonstrations each day, featuring non-stop unwinding, flexographic printing and non-stop turret rewinding, attracting interest from converters throughout the show and providing an opportunity to see its press architecture, automation and integrated production capabilities in operation.

Other press features showcased at Loupe Americas include a BST web guiding system, Phidastien UV LED curing systems, Erhardt+Leimer SmartScan 200 percent inspection system, Kocher+Beck print cylinders, Polyflex Premedia printing plates, and a Wink SmartGap adjustable anvil system.

Rotocon also said it secured several equipment orders at Loupe Americas from customers in South Africa and Kenya investing in its label printing presses and converting equipment. One order came from Kenyan converter Express Labels, which purchased an RFP 340 8-color, full-LED flexographic press with peel-and-read, cold foil, sheeter and conveyor units. Express Labels’ Esther Wahome traveled from Kenya to Chicago to sign the order at the show.

'Loupe Americas was an important milestone for Rotocon as we expand our presence in North America,' said the Rotocon board of directors. 'The interest from converters and industry partners confirmed the demand for high-performance, high-value flexographic and converting technology, supported by a strong local team. We are excited about the opportunities ahead for Rotocon USA and our customers in the region.'

Rotocon’s press conference at Loupe Americas drew turnout from industry media, with attendees gathering to hear about the company’s growing presence in the North American market and its latest flexographic technology. Presenters included Michael Aengenvoort (Rotocon), Cooper Ludwig and Jeff Haddad (Rotocon USA) and Sachin Sukhlal (Rotocon), who led a live demonstration of the fully integrated label production line.

'Converters have been looking for an alternative, and I think the response we received in Chicago speaks volumes,' said Jeff Haddad, national sales director of Rotocon USA and Q360 Group. 'Modern servo technology shouldn’t be financially out of reach, and investing in a new press shouldn’t require compromising on performance, capability, or support. That’s exactly what we’re challenging.'

'What we experienced in Chicago was more than a successful product launch,' said Cooper Ludwig, vice president of Rotocon USA and Q360 Group. 'It validated what we believed from the beginning: the North American market is ready for a new challenger. We’re not simply introducing another press manufacturer. The Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) has formed its new Brand Owner Council and welcomed its inaugural members: Kraft Heinz, PepsiCo and Procter & Gamble. The council will bring together brand owners, converters and suppliers to address shared challenges and advance innovation across the flexible packaging value chain.

The Brand Owner Council is a new membership category within FPA designed to give brand owners a direct voice in shaping the future of flexible packaging. The council will create opportunities for shared learning among brand owners, flexible packaging converters, suppliers and policymakers on the issues that most directly impact packaging innovation, sustainability and business growth.

As consumer expectations, sustainability goals and regulatory requirements continue to evolve, flexible packaging remains at the forefront of packaging innovation. The Brand Owner Council was established to strengthen engagement across the packaging value chain, giving industry leaders a platform to share insights, address emerging challenges and identify opportunities to advance the use and performance of flexible packaging. Key areas of focus include helping to advance flexible packaging circularity, design innovation, and sustainability initiatives; supporting consumer education on the environmental benefits and circularity potential of flexible packaging; and integrating a collective brand owner perspective to elevate and strengthen FPA's advocacy and public policy efforts.

'The launch of the Brand Owner Council marks an important milestone for FPA and the flexible packaging industry,' said Dan Felton, FPA president and CEO. 'By bringing together leading consumer brands with packaging manufacturers and suppliers, we are creating a powerful forum for thought leadership that will help drive innovation, support sustainability goals and better position the industry for future growth.'

FPA expects the Brand Owner Council to continue growing as additional companies join the effort to advance packaging innovation, accelerate sustainability progress and strengthen collaboration across the flexible packaging value chain.
