Lecta Self-Adhesives has expanded its range of film materials with the launch of Adestor Clear on Clear, a new label that incorporates a next-generation adhesive with maximum transparency, ideal for applications with high visual impact and complex technical requirements.

Adestor Clear on Clear combines a polypropylene facestock, a new A292F adhesive with superior clarity and a PET liner to create an value-added for labels that seek to convey a premium image. This combination delivers a visual effect similar to direct screen printing on packaging while maintaining the efficiency and flexibility of self-adhesive technology.

The new A292F water-based acrylic adhesive has two standout features: high transparency and adhesion performance on a wide variety of substrates, including glass, HDPE, PP and PET. Meanwhile, the PP facestock incorporates a top-coated finish that ensures optimal printability in the most commonly used technologies.

With its mechanical properties, the PET liner offers reliable and consistent performance on high-speed labeling lines, even in the most demanding production environments.

In an environment where purchasing decisions are made in a matter of seconds, an attractive label makes all the difference. Mactac's new Vivid chrome film labels deliver style, performance and durability for food, beverage, personal care and household applications.

The improved polypropylene (BOPP) prime film offering is designed to generate attention and interest from consumers, creating dynamic point-of-sale marketing opportunities for brand owners. Labels feature a premium metallic appeal at a cost-effective price.

'Using our vertically integrated network and unique state-of-the-art film coating and finishing assets, we developed a superior chrome BOPP film that checks all the boxes,' said Kim Hensley, senior marketing manager, Mactac Roll Label.

The robust topcoat is optimized for flexographic, digital and thermal transfer printing. Highlights of the new film include a specialized barrier coating that ensures moisture and scuff resistance, as well as durability; metal adhesion to prevent peel or transfer of metal layers and maintain shelf appeal; and steadfast resistance to moisture and oil migration to deter staining.

Depending on the application, the 2.0 mil Vivid chrome BOPP film can be paired with a variety of Mactac acrylic emulsion and hot melt adhesives, including the new MP238, PUREtac ultimate clear, Chill AT all-temperature, and ST-95 all-purpose adhesives. Labels are supplied with either a 1.2 mil clear polyester (PET) or 2.4 mil Super Calendered Kraft (SCK) paper liner.

Vivid chrome BOPP prime films have a one-year shelf life.

Henkel shows sustainable adhesives at Labelexpo Europe 2025

Henkel Adhesive Technologies has confirmed that it will demonstrate how companies can use advanced adhesives to comply with the requirements of the EU packaging regulation PPWR and actively shape future-proof packaging design at Labelexpo Europe 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.

From September 16 to 19, the company will be presenting its products at the world's largest trade fair for label and packaging printing technologies in Hall 4, Stand 4C56, with a focus on two key topics: recyclability and CO2 reduction along the entire value chain.

Henkel is showcasing its recyclable PSAs at the trade show, under the theme ‘Enabling circularity in labels – with adhesives and coatings’. Developed to improve circularity in label applications, these adhesives support companies in meeting the requirements of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) early on. They include wash-off PSAs for PET bottles, which can be removed without any residue even at low temperatures; among these is Aquence PS 3017 RE, which won the Finat Sustainability Award 2024. In addition, the company is showcasing repulpable adhesives for paper labels that completely dissolve in the recycling process.

Henkel will bring in its expertise from the Henkel Packaging recyclab, located at the Henkel Inspiration Center Düsseldorf (ICD). The in-house test center allows packaging designs to be tested under realistic conditions and evaluated in accordance with applicable guidelines. In doing so, Henkel not only supports its partners in fulfilling regulatory requirements such as the PPWR, but also in designing packaging holistically and sustainably from the very beginning.

Henkel will also showcase high-performance solutions for CO2 reduction including specially developed PSA adhesives that are ideal for linerless label applications. As they do not require a liner, they reduce the amount of material used and increase process efficiency in label printing. In addition, UV-curable PSA adhesives stand out not only for their high energy efficiency, but also for their resistance to heat, chemicals, and environmental influences. These properties make them suitable for demanding label and tape applications, such as in the medical sector or the graphics industry.

‘The coming years will bring fundamental changes for the labeling and packaging industry. Companies aiming to remain competitive must address sustainability, performance and regulation as a whole and work with partners from the industry to overcome the challenges,’ said Philippe Daval, head of market strategy packaging Europe at Henkel Adhesive Technologies. ‘Our adhesive and coating technologies provide the basis for this, all the way from design for recycling to reliable implementation.’

Three thermal transfer ribbon companies, TTS, Calor and Regma, have merged to operate under the unified identity of Todaytec Group Europe, bringing together decades of industry expertise and technical excellence with the shared ambition to become one of the world's leading thermal transfer ribbon suppliers.

The merger creates, what the company claims, is Europe's largest range of thermal transfer ribbons, with many products available for next-day delivery. Customers across Europe can now access a broader and more advanced product portfolio backed by the trusted service and support previously provided by the three individual companies.

'This is more than a name change – it's a strategic evolution,' said a company spokesperson when announcing the merger.

Mondi has become the first South African company to receive Cradle to Cradle Certified certification at the Bronze level for its uncoated fine paper portfolio, including office paper and reels, produced at its Merebank mill.

The global leader in sustainable packaging and paper achieved certification for products including Rotatrim, its premium multifunctional office paper brand, as well as uncoated wood-free reels such as Constat, Envapost and Script. The Cradle to Cradle Certified program is a globally recognized multi-attribute certification that verifies products are designed and manufactured in a circular economy to maximize health and wellbeing for both people and the planet.

'This important sustainability milestone reflects our ongoing efforts to deliver circular-driven approaches and contributes to the Group's ambitious Mondi Action Plan 2030 sustainability commitments,' said Donovan Naidoo, operations director at Mondi Merebank. 'It also reinforces the trust our customers place in Mondi to reliably meet their evolving sustainability requirements with certified, high-quality paper products.'

The Full Scope certification encompasses all aspects, from sourcing to production, and certifies that products are manufactured and used in accordance with circular economy principles. The program assesses five categories of sustainability performance: Material Health, Product Circularity, Clean Air and Climate Protection, Water and Soil Stewardship, and Social Fairness.

Mondi's achievement marks a significant step toward adopting circular economy principles in South African paper production. The certified products demonstrate the company's commitment to circularity, equitable production and environmental stewardship in the region.

The Rotatrim brand has recently launched a new look to highlight its commitment to local design and improved product performance, alongside its certification achievement.

As the primary connection between both exhibitions, Sappi's wet glue label portfolio showcases proven solutions for demanding applications. The Parade Label WS range offers double-coated, high-wet-strength and alkali-resistant properties with a functional coating on the reverse side, specifically engineered for returnable bottles used in beer, mineral water, and soft drinks applications.

Available in grammages from 65-80 g/sqm, Parade Label WS delivers whiteness, brightness, and high surface quality whilst ensuring quality printing and finishing results for maximum shelf impact and brand differentiation. The range includes Parade Label WS Linen, featuring linen embossing that enhances both look and feel whilst optimizing functionality through improved label separability and reduced static adhesion, ensuring labels wash off easily when preparing bottles for reuse.

Labelexpo Europe's focus on self-adhesive labelling provides the ideal showcase for Sappi's comprehensive range of face stock papers and release liners. Sappi's Parade Face portfolio offers high-quality print surfaces from high-gloss to semi-gloss to matte, helping brands create distinctive packaging that captures consumer attention and drives shelf appeal.

Parade Face High Gloss (80 gsm) for premium label applications delivers smoothness and high-quality print reproduction for high-end packaging across premium food products, premium home care products, and luxury beverages. The product is particularly renowned for metallization applications, where a thin aluminum layer creates eye-catching silver effects that elevate brand perception. Meanwhile, Parade Face Semi Gloss (77 gsm) for standard applications delivers reliable performance across flexo, rotogravure, offset, letterpress, and digital printing systems.

Herma launches PP flex label films for sustainable packaging applications

Herma has unveiled new PP flex label films that deliver properties typically associated with standard PE films, while using considerably less material. The products will be presented for the first time at Labelexpo Europe in Barcelona.

The Herma PP flex white (grade 840) and Herma PP flex clear (grade 847) feature a thickness of just 45 micrometers, approximately 40 percent less than standard PE films. Despite their reduced thickness, both films maintain comparable rigidity and dispensability to standard PE films without compromising processing speeds, production efficiency or printability.

Thanks to their special, easily wettable outer layer without a top coat, both PP films can be flexo-printed as effectively as conventional corona-pretreated PE films or classic PP films with a top coat after corona pretreatment. The films have been specifically developed for applications where significantly thicker white or transparent PE films are typically used.

The two new films expand the existing Herma Thin Range, which includes various self-adhesive materials that save resources through significantly reduced weight. The PP flex films can produce attractive white or transparent glossy labels ideal for use on polyolefin plastic surfaces for recycling purposes.

The films are suitable for labeling cosmetics, household products, cleaning products, beverages and food. The high transparency of the clear PP flex film offers advantages over transparent PE films, providing visibly transparent labels.

The Cyclos-HTP Institute certified both Herma PP flex films in combination with adhesive 72HPW for easy separation from HDPE and PET-based packaging during the recycling process. This certification makes the films suitable for wash-off applications involving rigid HDPE packaging, even in cold washes, or PET bottles.

Herma now has five different self-adhesive materials certified for HDPE packaging, representing a significant advancement given the previous scarcity of viable options for this recycling challenge.
