Stahl, manufacturer of specialty coatings for flexible materials, has relocated and opened its enhanced Center of Excellence in León, Mexico. The new facility features state-of-the-art offices, application laboratories, and testing capabilities, enabling the delivery of advanced, lower-impact products closer to customers across Latin America.

This strategic investment follows a series of recent expansions, including the doubling of capacity in China, a new production facility in Ranipet, India, a Center of Excellence in Apex, a new laboratory in Japan and a new PUD facility in Singapore. With a significantly larger footprint than the previous León facility, the upgraded center provides a more comprehensive customer experience, encompassing multi-substrate design support, application development, testing and training.

'Mexico is an important market for Stahl, with a strong base of automotive, fashion and footwear customers,' said Maarten Heijbroek, CEO of Stahl. 'By investing in this enhanced facility, we are staying close to where our customers are and giving them access to the very best technologies, people and expertise. This is a clear example of how we are growing with purpose, to serve our partners better today and tomorrow.'

The León site is part of Stahl’s global network, comprising over 30 application labs, 10 Centers of Excellence, and 15 manufacturing facilities.

Siegwerk expands in the Middle East

Siegwerk has opened a new site in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, further strengthening its presence in the Middle East. The new facility comprises an office building and a warehouse, designed to improve service proximity and logistical efficiency, thereby ensuring faster delivery times and enhanced support for customers across the Middle East region.

The expansion underscores Siegwerk’s commitment to being closer to its customers, enabling it to better meet local market needs.

'As demand for high-performance and sustainable packaging continues to grow in the Middle East, we are excited to establish a stronger local presence through our new site in Dubai now,' said Stefan Rosenberg, head of sales of the narrow web business unit at Siegwerk. 'The investment allows us to be closer to our customers, provide faster and more flexible support, and offer products that help them meet ever-changing regulatory and sustainability requirements. This includes, for example, our advanced LED Dual Cure ink technology, which enables packaging printers to switch to more eco-friendly production processes without compromising on performance.'

Siegwerk has been developing UV and LED-curing inks and coatings for decades, resulting in a broad portfolio of products that are continuously optimized to meet evolving market requirements, such as new raw materials and the increasing performance of LED/UV lamps. With its Sicura Nutriflex LEDTec series, Siegwerk offers a low-migration UV flexo ink suitable for primary food, pharmaceutical and hygiene packaging applications. Its Sicura Flex Dual Cure can be used for standard applications, such as PSL or sleeves. Both series can be cured using both LED and UV arc lamps. Both ink technologies comply with the latest regulations, including the German Ink Ordinance (Sicura Nutriflex LEDTec) and offer benefits such as lower energy consumption, reduced CO2 emissions and improved recyclability of printed substrates. This underscores Siegwerk’s commitment to pioneering the development of forward-looking printing inks and coatings that facilitate compliant and safe packaging production while promoting a sustainable and recyclable packaging industry.

'Our Dual Cure inks are perfectly suited for the needs of packaging printers in the Middle East, where sustainability and compliance with international and local regulations are becoming increasingly important,' added Rosenberg. 'With our local experts and new infrastructure, we are ideally positioned to support customers in their transition to LED curing as future-ready printing technology.' With potential electricity savings of up to 50 percent, LED is becoming an increasingly attractive alternative for printers, not least due to the recent high and volatile energy costs.

Finley brings extensive experience in the ink and print industry, with a focus on print production, ink manufacturing, sales, technical service and customer support. In his new role, he will be responsible for technical service and field support for the flexographic narrow web market.

Flint Group has confirmed it will showcase its latest technologies for the label and packaging industries at Labelexpo Europe 2025, scheduled to take place in Barcelona from September 16-19. The company's Narrow Web and Digital divisions will occupy two booths, representing Flint Group's largest-ever presence at the event.

The exhibition comes as the show moves to Barcelona for the first time after four decades in Brussels. Flint Group plans to use this new venue to introduce what it describes as its most advanced FCM UV Hg ink technology to date.

'Flint Group is eager to exhibit from an exciting new location and is preparing a distinctive show experience to unveil an important innovation,' said Niklas Olsson, European product manager for narrow web. 'At the show, the team will proudly introduce its most advanced FCM UV Hg ink technology to date - an evolution that reflects our ongoing commitment to safe, compliant and high-performance packaging technologies.'

The company will address current market challenges, including regulatory compliance, sustainability demands and operational efficiency.

'We closely monitor market dynamics and understand the challenges printers face - from regulatory compliance and food safety to packaging circularity and the reduction of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions,' explained Olson. 'The technologies we will present at Labelexpo reflect our strong commitment to these priorities, both for our customers and our business.'

Anna Niewiadomska, marketing manager for narrow web, added: 'Our technologies are engineered for today's demands and tomorrow's challenges. Complex substrates, challenging applications and evolving regulations require printers to adopt innovative technologies that ensure performance, safety and circularity. Flint Group delivers on all three.'

The Narrow Web division will feature FCM inks, including the established EkoCure Ancora dual-cure series, alongside the new UV Hg curing system designed for food-safe packaging applications. The company will also display its Evolution Series products that enhance label recyclability and support circular packaging models.

Vivo Colour technologies will include the new Vico ColourMatch module, designed for faster brand shade matching and efficient press return management. The division will also showcase efficiency-focused innovations aimed at improving productivity and reducing waste.

Flint Group's Digital division will demonstrate three key presses on the stand. The Xeikon LX3000, powered by Cheetah 3.0 dry toner technology, targets converters seeking sustainable, high-performance label production. The press features new Eco toners and energy-saving capabilities for short-run and food-safe applications.

The Xeikon PX3300HD promises breakthrough resolution with smoother gradients and sharper text for UV inkjet applications. Designed for industrial, health and beauty and beverage markets, the press combines speed, quality and durability.

The company will also show the Xeikon TX500 with in-line metallization from Kurz, described as an industry-first hybrid technology combining dry toner with metallized effects in a single pass. This setup targets premium wine and spirits labels and other high-end applications.

'For Xeikon, Labelexpo always feels like coming home. We know the label industry inside out, and we're proud to offer the right technology for every converter - whether that's UV inkjet or dry toner,' said Danny Mertens, marketing manager for Flint Group Digital. 'With our new Titon technology, we're introducing a next-generation toner that meets today's evolving packaging demands and regulatory pressures head-on.'

Flint Group CEO Pepyn Dinandt will attend the Barcelona show and emphasized the company's commitment to supporting printers beyond product demonstrations. 'Labelexpo is a highly valuable platform for Flint Group to meet and engage with printers from around the world and to turn inspiration into genuine opportunities,' he said.

Siegwerk champions collaborative innovation in sustainable packaging

Siegwerk has participated in the Masterpress Media Day, which took place on June 5, 2025, at Masterpress’s site in Białystok, Poland. At the event, industry leaders discussed the future of sustainable packaging in light of the evolving EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and other market trends.

The event featured a high-level panel discussion titled 'Removing the ‘buzz’ in collaboration – delivering a ‘Competitive’ EU PPWR through collaborative efforts across the packaging supply chain'. During the panel, Siegwerk was represented by Alina Marm, head of global sustainability and circular economy, and Marc Larvor, head of global PSR and sustainability inks and coatings.

Alongside partners from Masterpress and Taghleef, the panel examined regulatory blind spots in the PPWR, the significance of design-for-recycling (DfR) guidelines, and how cross-industry collaboration can foster innovation. Siegwerk also shared insights into its Cirkit product portfolio, which combines functional coatings and inks that maintain recyclability while enabling mono-material packaging alternatives. The company also highlighted its leadership in developing deinkable and low-migration ink systems, as well as its proactive role in collaborative testing to meet EU and national regulations, such as the German Ink Ordinance 1.2.

'Despite all its challenges, the PPWR is a unique opportunity to create a packaging industry that offers functional, sustainable and in the end cost-competitive packaging as it makes recyclable packaging the only viable option,' said Marm. 'By working closely with partners across the value chain, such as Masterpress and Taghleef, we’re turning regulatory challenges into opportunities for scalable, sustainable solution.'

Masterpress Media Day emphasised the importance of collaboration in creating a circular packaging economy, and Siegwerk is proud to be at the forefront of this change.

Siegwerk continues its commitment toward SOS Children's Village

Siegwerk has partnered with SOS Children's Village to develop a joint strategy that opens up new opportunities for disadvantaged children and young people, transitioning their lives into independent and successful ones.

The collaboration between Siegwerk and SOS Children's Villages worldwide began in Mexico City in 2010 when the SOS Children's Village on-site had to be completely rebuilt due to severe structural defects. Siegwerk financed the construction of a new building for eight children and their SOS mother. This project marked the beginning of a long-standing partnership.

Since then, Siegwerk has annually supported projects run by the children's rights organization in South America and Asia with a contribution of 1.15 million USD. Additionally, employees from nearby Siegwerk sites contribute their expertise and time to selected projects, supporting young people in their personal and professional development by mentoring, training and teaching them relevant social and technical skills. These projects also align with Siegwerk's values and core themes, such as digitalization and sustainability.

Following this mentoring approach, Siegwerk has partnered with the global employability initiative YouthCan!, run by SOS Children's Villages worldwide, since 2018. This project empowers young people to transition to independent careers. Local Siegwerk employees are personally involved in supporting young adults through skills training and by acting as role models, trainers, and mentors. Joint workshops and events are regularly organized to promote the professional and personal development of youth participants. Siegwerk volunteers share their knowledge and experience while also providing young people with access to the working environment. Some young people have since become Siegwerk employees themselves. Between 2020 and 2024, Siegwerk and the local SOS Children's Villages associations have implemented more than 150 projects and activities as part of YouthCan!

'Social commitment is firmly anchored in Siegwerk's corporate culture. We want to give back to the communities in which we operate,' said Dr Nicolas Wiedmann, CEO at Siegwerk. 'We are very proud that our employees have contributed their expertise and time for 15 years to help children and young people pave their way to a better, self-determined life. SOS Children's Villages worldwide is a strong partner that makes this possible and does exceptional work.'

Siegwerk currently supports ongoing projects in Brazil, Guatemala, Mexico, the Philippines, and Thailand. In addition to promoting vocational qualifications, the goal is to also provide young people with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes necessary for a sustainable and resource-efficient society and economy.

This collaboration benefits both parties, as employees gain valuable experience and improve their skills. This is confirmed by the annual survey conducted by SOS Children's Villages worldwide among Siegwerk volunteers and YouthCan! participants (YouthCan! Volunteer and Youth Surveys, 2020–2023).

89 percent of volunteers feel that their work has helped them improve relevant skills, such as presentation, teamwork, leadership, and communication.
93 percent are also more satisfied with their job and feel prouder to work for Siegwerk.
Of the young adults, 90 percent say that participating in YouthCan! has given them a positive outlook on the future and a plan for their next steps in life.
Looking back, 91 percent of young people confirm that the skills they gained are essential for their job.

'Our 15-year partnership with Siegwerk demonstrates how sustainable corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies can bring about positive social change,' said Barbara Gruner, a member of the executive board of SOS Children's Villages worldwide. 'Through the active engagement of its employees and global cooperation as part of the YouthCan! Initiative, Siegwerk is setting standards for corporate engagement. This effective, long-lasting partnership serves as inspiration and a model for future-oriented corporate social responsibility.'

Pulse announces new structure and fresh look

Pulse, the manufacturer of narrow web ink solutions for label and packaging printers, has made strategic promotions designed to support the company’s growth objectives.

This sees Jim Whitehead promoted to the position of commercial director. Whitehead joined Pulse in the summer of 2023 as export sales director and has been integral to the international growth of the business, particularly in Europe. This coincided with the launch of a dedicated operation in Poland, Pulse Polska, at the start of 2024.

In his new role, Jim is overseeing internal sales, product management and marketing. He will focus on driving customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, product interrogation, product rationalization, and managing both internal and external communications.

At the same time, Richard Wood becomes global sales director. Wood joined the business a little over three years ago as UK and Ireland sales director and has successfully strengthened the position of Pulse in its home territory. With oversight of all customers and distributors worldwide, this expertise will now be extended to a global customer base as the Bristol-based ink manufacturer continues to grow around the world with unique chemistries and products that promote system-wide efficiency.

Gary Seward, one of the founders of Pulse and who continues as managing director of the business, said: ‘I am delighted that Jim and Richard have accepted these new roles and embraced the challenge of helping our business grow even further.

‘When we started our business over 20 years ago, we set out to provide a unique point of difference to the label industry. Over those years, our product portfolio has developed in the same way and now gives printers a genuine opportunity to set themselves apart from the competition. Pulse has also developed a new logo and adopted fresh branding.

The fresh and contemporary spin on the Pulse brand, losing ‘Roll Label Products’, positions the company as the heartbeat of the label printing industry. The same level of attention to accuracy, precision, and focus in flexo production remains and the target element of the logo reiterates this. The green accent color reflects a focus on sustainability, whenever and wherever possible.

With the strapline, ‘Making print simple’, the company makes consistent and accurate printing simple to achieve. Customers benefit through extensive technical support, next-generation products, and a philosophy of excellence.

The new identity is being rolled out across the business with all regions adopting the new identity, including Pulse Polska.

Siegwerk India marks World Environment Day

As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement, Siegwerk India organized a plantation drive on World Environment Day at a plantation site near the pond of Pur village, Rajasthan.

The plantation site, spanning approximately 3000 sqm, was donated by the village Sarpanch and the villagers of Pur. The vacant land, which was at risk of turning into a landfill area, has been transformed into a green space through the collaborative efforts of the villagers and Siegwerk’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. The donation of this land was made with the full support of the village community. Recognizing the threat that a landfill posed to the nearby live pond and the overall local ecosystem, the villagers took proactive steps to restore the land.

Siegwerk India has planted close to 1000 plants at the site, including a mix of fruit-bearing trees, shady trees and medicinal plants. This diverse plantation is expected to enhance biodiversity, provide shade and offer medicinal benefits to the community, fostering a healthier and greener environment. The team also planted over 100 trees at their factory in Bhiwadi.

Manjusha Singh, CEO, Siegwerk India, said: 'Our partnership with Pur village exemplifies how corporate and community efforts can come together to address environmental challenges. Transforming this land into a green space helps preserve water quality, enhances biodiversity and inspires sustainable living. We look forward to continuing such meaningful projects that nurture both nature and society.'

Ajit Singh, CFO, Siegwerk India, added: 'Environmental sustainability is a key pillar of our corporate responsibility. By collaborating with the Pur village community, we are not only protecting the natural habitat but also creating lasting benefits for the local ecosystem and residents.'

The initiative is not only aimed at greening the land but also at protecting the water quality of the nearby pond, preventing pollution that could arise from the land being used as a dumping ground. In addition to this annual CSR initiative, Siegwerk also previously undertook the restoration of a pond at Dhaki village, increasing ToF (Trees outside Forest) to promote water resource management.
