Chinese supplier Rotary is showcasing a comprehensive range of rotary die-cutting tools and rollers, including magnetic rollers, flexible dies, engraved circular knives, slitting and perforating dies, sheet-cutting dies, printing rollers and sleeve-mounted rollers, at Booth L31 at Labelexpo Europe 2025.

At the show, Rotary presents its latest globally patented product: the G2 high-precision magnetic roller, a magnetic roller with a magnet-free roller surface. Crafted from stainless steel and treated with a laser hardening process, this innovative roller has transformed the traditional design of the first-generation magnetic rollers, which relied on specific magnet arrangements and adhesive reinforcement on the roller surface. The result is a product that boasts a high level of stability and precision during long-term operation.

Rotary is the first Chinese manufacturer to introduce Western technology for production. It released first-generation magnetic rollers and flexible dies back in 2006. Over the years, the company has collaborated closely with numerous domestic equipment suppliers and served end-user printing and packaging manufacturers. Adhering to the core philosophy of ‘quality first and courage innovation’, Rotary has consistently launched new products and enhanced its production processes.

‘I believe our G2 magnetic roller represents another milestone: a genuine global innovation designed to complement high-precision, high-quality rotary die-cutting operations. Visitors are welcome to communicate with us during the Europe show and also at Labelexpo Asia 2025 in December in Shanghai,’ said Bill Shen, CEO of Rotary.

Kocher+Beck is exhibiting its technology portfolio at stand 3E47 at Labelexpo Europe 2025.

The company is showcasing its GapMaster EM (Electronic Move) alongside the new Variable Gap System. Additionally, Kocher+Beck is introducing a new generation of anti-stick coatings for flexible dies, resulting in less adhesive residue on the cutting edges. This new coating is certified for all applications, including pharmaceutical and medical uses, and is compliant with environmental standards.

Advancements in die-cutting technology include the new Industry 4.0-ready digital KMS Pressure Gauge System and the latest motorized version, which is equipped with various sensors and provides higher stability under varying loads. Another highlight is the Quick-Change die-cutting station, which allows magnetic cylinders to be pre-mounted during the current job and exchanged in seconds.

TecScreen has improved its processing unit. The unit now features the capability to store and recycle water, demonstrating commitment to sustainability.

Additionally, Kocher+Beck's exhibition stand is constructed from materials previously used at Labelexpo Europe 2023, and the company is reusing its furniture and UV equipment.

Acme Rolltech expands capacity

Founded six years ago, Acme Rolltech has experienced substantial growth, expanding its global presence and production capacity.

Acme Rolltech, an India-based manufacturer of flexo anilox rolls and sleeves, has strengthened its global brand recognition and introduced many new innovative products.

Founded in 2019, the company has developed new products in the last year.

For the label industry, it has introduced ATAC (Acme TACtile) roll. The first version was launched in 2019, and the second version, ATAC 2.0, debuted at Labelexpo Europe 2023. This product allows converters to achieve a screen-type raised effect through anilox in a single pass.

The company has sold over 350 rolls of ATAC and ATAC 2.0 rolls combined. Other products for the label industry are AHDW and AHDW 2.0 (Acme High Density White), which have gained significant traction for its high-opacity white printing and text matter in a single pass.

North America, Latin America and Europe are our primary targets for growth

With higher LPI values, its Advanced Channel Engraving (ACE) reduces ink consumption, attracting wide web, mid web, and narrow web customers. The company has already started selling ACE in India and is set to expand its customer base further.

Another significant development is its CI flexo analog sleeves for the wide web industry. These lightweight, durable sleeves are now made in India. The new product was introduced in December 2023.

New partnerships

To enhance its global presence, Acme has appointed agent partners in specific regions around the world. Acme formed strong collaborations in key areas, particularly in European countries such as Italy, France and Germany, as well as in Latin America and North America.

Currently, Acme has around 12 agent partners, covering regions such as South Africa, East Africa, the Middle East and Turkey. During drupa, its director Sandeep Sharma met with potential partners and successfully appointed three new agents for additional regions, two in Latin America, one in Europe. The partner in Italy will handle Italy, Germany, and France, while it also has representatives in Brazil and Colombia.

Sharma says: ‘We are aware of gaps in our presence, particularly in Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Europe, where we aim to expand. North America, Latin America and Europe are our primary targets for growth, and we plan to establish a stronger footprint in these regions by next year.’

Rapid time to market

The manufacturer has found its niche, enabling it to expand in the global market rapidly.

‘We are a six-year-old company competing with established players who’ve been in the market for over 50 years. We face competition wherever we go, whether in China, Europe, the US, or locally in India where we manufacture. Our mark of distinction lies in our agility to adapt to local customer needs in India and globally,’ Sharma says.

‘Beyond just selling standard anilox rolls, we listen to our customers, understand their challenges, and tailor our products with the latest technologies to meet their specific requirements. This approach earns us recognition for tackling even the most challenging tasks.’

While others may focus on standard anilox jobs, Acme prioritizes customization, value added services, quality, and competitive pricing. Sharma says that Acme can match or exceed European and US standards in quality and the company’s market responsiveness exceeds competitors from Europe and the US.

The company’s biggest strength is its rapid time to market.

‘For example, while sitting in a customer’s office in the Middle East, I provided a quotation instantly when asked. The customer was impressed by our quick response. We commit to delivering rolls within 20 to 25 days for narrow web customers, achieving a 98 to 99 percent success rate each month,’ Sharma notes.

Capacity expansion

Maintaining this unique selling proposition is crucial for Acme. That is why it has invested in a third engraving machine to further enhance its market speed and capabilities.

The company’s ability to deliver rolls and sleeves fast to customers is crucial, especially as it expands into export markets where orders are significantly larger, often 30 to 40 rolls at once. Unlike domestic orders that can be fulfilled in batches, export orders require Acme to dispatch entire orders in one shipment to maintain efficiency.

‘We are committed to preserving our unique selling proposition of speed to market, which is why we’re investing not only in new machinery but also in improving our entire production process, from pre-production to post-production,’ Sharma highlights.

The manufacturer has also added the capability to manufacture base rolls and sleeves in-house, making investments totaling over 1m USD for this purpose.

Previously, Acme relied on two or three trusted partners in the industry for manufacturing base rolls. However, with increased quantity, delivery times have become a concern.

‘While we can manufacture everything in-house, we will continue collaborating with our partners to maintain consistent timelines for our customers. If we receive a large volume of orders, we may split them between our internal production and our partners to ensure efficient delivery without compromising on customer service.’

The new setup will be operational by August 2025.

With this expansion, the capacity will increase significantly. Currently, Acme produces about 300 to 350 rolls per month, including both large and small rolls. With the additional capabilities, it is expected to reach approximately 550 to 600 rolls per month. This represents nearly a doubling of its current production capacity.

Other technologies on display include Tidland's SmartSlit automated narrow web slitting system with enhanced operator safety processes, and the RD AutoScore automated back scoring system that delivers return on investment in under two years through increased uptime.

Fife presents new digital sensors and guiding systems, while Componex showcases new plasma coatings and FDA-compliant coatings for enhanced release properties and improved wear and abrasion resistance.

Sandon Global, the British anilox manufacturer, has been recognized by the UK flexographic industry after being awarded Gold Supplier of the Year at the FIA UK Annual Awards Gala, held on June 26 at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool.

Hosted by the Flexographic Industry Association UK (FIA UK), the annual event celebrates excellence in flexographic printing, bringing together the sector to acknowledge achievements in print quality, innovation, technical development, efficiency and sustainability. In addition to its own success, Sandon Global was proud to see 11 of its customers receive a combined total of 27 awards across 13 categories, including eight gold, eight silver, seven bronze and four highly commended accolades.

Richard Millington, managing director at Sandon Global, said: ‘Firstly, I’d like to congratulate all 11 Sandon Global customers, and the other award winners, who have rightly been recognized for their outstanding work across the flexographic industry.

‘We are also truly moved to have received the prestigious Gold Award for Supplier of the Year. The timing of this recognition is of particular personal significance. Many of you will be aware that an incident on-site at the end of 2024, involving an extraction fire in our plasma department, seriously impacted our anilox manufacturing operations in the first half of 2025, making it a challenging year to date.

‘On behalf of the whole team, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our customers and partners, both in the UK and around the world, for their patience, support and loyalty during this period. Millington added that the company is investing in the future of the business and looking forward to delivering the quality and service to customers have come to expect. On the back of this, it has taken positive actions to implement business process improvements and reassessed its business continuity plans to mitigate the impact of such events should they occur in future.

Sandon Global has been investing heavily in its people in the past six months, with the appointment of three highly qualified PhD experts, whose combined knowledge and expertise spans plasma coating, laser engineering, advanced automation, data-driven manufacturing and intelligent business systems. These appointments will help drive the business forward.

Richard Millington added: ‘This year has seen significant investment in our team, including research and technical, company systems and business processes, as our focus on scientific and technological developments, and digitalization, continues. Since the company was founded in 2004, Sandon Global has received a number of national awards and has subsequently gained its award-winning reputation. The company has received Silver in FIA UK’s Supplier of the Year category for the past five consecutive years (2020 - 2024). It previously received the former EFIA’s Gold Supplier Award of the Year in 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2011 and the Silver ‘Supplier of the Year’ in 2013, 2010, 2009 and 2008.

Family die-makers launched in cellar celebrates 60-year anniversary

The Arden Group, a die-making business that began in a 10-foot-square cellar, is celebrating its 60th anniversary as one of the global packaging industry leaders.

Brothers Frank and Philip Poynter established their die-making workshop in 1964 with just one saw and a workbench in the cellar of their mother's semi-detached house in Bredbury, Stockport. Philip would finish his day job making dies at a local printing firm and continue working in the cellar, while salesman Frank secured orders.

Within months, the brothers had built a profitable business. By 1965, they outgrew their underground workspace and moved to their first official factory on Cross Lane in Marple, Stockport, officially founding Arden Dies.

The Arden Group remains a family business 60 years later. The late Frank Poynter's son, Martin Poynter, serves as managing director alongside his daughter Sarah Poynter, who is operations director. The company is now in its third generation of family leadership.

Today, the Arden Group comprises three specialist divisions serving global packaging and print sectors. Arden Dies is one of the UK's largest die-makers, manufacturing specialist dies and tooling for packaging and cartons. Arden Engraving produces embossing and hot foil stamping tooling for packaging and labels. Arden Software provides CAD/CAM software for packaging design.

Martin Poynter joined the family business in 1978, at the age of 21, following the death of his uncle Philip. 'Celebrating our diamond anniversary is a proud milestone for our family and for everyone who has contributed to Arden's success over the past 60 years,' he said.

'From modest beginnings in my grandmother's cellar to becoming a global leader in the packaging sector, we have always stayed true to our core values of quality and innovation, established by my father Frank and uncle Philip.'

The company operates from its headquarters on Shepley Lane in Marple, Stockport, where it has been located since 1985. The Arden Group has grown into an international business employing 260 people across sites in the UK, Germany, Denmark, Poland, India, the US and Mexico.

The Arden name was inspired by the noble Arden family of Bredbury, whose estate included the Poynter brothers' childhood home. Former RAF member Frank Poynter, who served with the Path Finders Force of the Lancaster Bombers, incorporated the PFF Hawk emblem into the company logo as a tribute to his military heritage.

To mark the anniversary, Arden hosted a family fun day in June at Marple Golf Club, bringing together staff and families. The company's international offices are planning additional anniversary events throughout the year.

Double E Group has announced that its subsidiary, Convertech, will transition to operate exclusively under the Double E Group brand, consolidating its manufacturing operations from Wharton, New Jersey, to the company's West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, facility.

The rebranding reflects operational integration rather than ownership change, as Convertech has operated as part of Double E Group since its acquisition. The company provides core chucks and shaft technology for converting industry applications.

Manufacturing consolidation at the Massachusetts campus aims to enhance production efficiency and customer service delivery. The transition includes updated branding and shipping information while maintaining existing product specifications and part numbers.

'This transition is about clarity, not change,' said Kyle Willis, CEO of Double E Group. 'Convertech has been part of the Double E Group for years. By bringing everything under one name and into one facility, we're reinforcing our unified commitment to customer success and product excellence.'

The integration preserves Convertech's technical team and manufacturing processes while providing access to Double E Group's expanded engineering and production resources. Customer purchasing information and technical drawings remain unchanged during the transition.

Frank D'Olivera, general manager of Convertech, added: 'We are excited to continue serving our partners as Double E Group. This evolution brings stronger alignment, faster turnaround and the same unwavering trust our customers have always counted on.'

The consolidation positions Double E Group to deliver comprehensive web handling technology from a single manufacturing location, supporting the company's growth strategy in converting industry markets.
