Blockfoil installs fifth Masterwork MK 1060 ST

Blockfoil, Europe’s largest foiling company, has installed its fifth Masterwork Graphic Equipment MK 1060 ST automatic foil stamping press to handle an increase in packaging work. The machine joins another MK 1060 ST at Blockfoil’s Ipswich factory, while similar models are in use at its Nottingham and Manchester sites.

‘There is a big move at the moment for UK manufacturers to have their packaging produced locally rather than sending it overseas,’ says Blockfoil’s managing director Barry Corbett. ‘We have seen an increase in the amount of foiling we are being asked to put on to a wide range of packaging work. Many manufacturers want technical help during the design stage in order to most effectively use, for example, images, varnishes, substrates and foil. In addition, everyone wants to know how to reduce their production costs!’

The MK 1060 ST will handle stock from 0.1 – 2 mm (90 – 2,000 gsm) and has a maximum stamping area of 1,060 x 740 mm. This model is built for fast throughput, and depending upon the amount of foil, can run at more than 7,000 sph.

The pneumatic lock-up system for the honeycomb chase and support plate results in quick operation, while the use of pneumatics and air blowers guarantee sheets are placed precisely into the delivery pile.

‘Carrying out adjustments is very straightforward on the MK 1060 ST,’ says Corbett. ‘Over the last twelve months we’ve been running our Masterwork machines around the clock for significant periods of time and their reliability has been excellent. Our first model is five years old and still working perfectly, handling jobs ranging from 5,000 to 100,000 sheets.’
