KBA integrates Atlantic Zeiser’s Delta 105i into new Rapida 105

Atlantic Zeiser is to supply its Delta 105i high-speed digital printer to KBA for in-line integration into the new Rapida 105 series.

The agreement will enable printers to achieve a wider range of special applications, and open new business sectors with cost-efficient printing. The combination ensures maximum print quality at speeds between 7,500 and 14,000 sheets/hour.

Market research indicates that hybrid offset/digital solutions are the future of printing. Until now, offset’s high quality and speed has not been matched by standard digital printing technology.

There is also a need for versatility in printing variable data onto different materials without extended setup times, as well as legal requirements and the rapidly growing number of product forgeries make high-quality, individual coding and serializing a necessity for product tracking and forgery protection on individual packs.

The 2D Datamatrix barcodes required to do this can be printed by an Atlantic Zeiser digital printing system, and checked directly and in-line via integrated verification solutions such as Vericam. This also facilitates transparent quality management and sustainable quality assurance.

Carl-Michael Heüveldop, head of business development at Atlantic Zeiser, said: ‘Developments within the EU to implement binding national regulations for standardized product coding and serializing for traceability of pharmaceutical goods by 2013 underline the market opportunities; and this is just one defined market sector. So, we are very proud that KBA chose our Delta and Vericam products for integration into its new Rapida 105.’

KBA’s Jürgen Veil, head of marketing for sheet-fed offset, said: ‘We designed the latest Rapida medium format presses to offer printers the range of applications that are demanded by their customers. A key point is integration, and the ability to code and serialize sheet variably in-line. We looked for a powerful, compact and flexible digital printing system, and found it in Atlantic Zeiser’s Delta system.’
