Hanita gains ISO 14001 environmental accreditation

Hanita Coatings, a supplier of topcoated polyester labelface, was recently awarded ISO certification by the Israel Standards Institute for the implementation of environmental and health and safety standards ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. The purpose of these standards is to help protect the environment, prevent pollution and improve environmental performance, whilst providing a clean and safe working environment for employees.
Hanita's efforts to comply with the ISO environmental standard began in 2006, with the refurbishing and eventual replacement of its emissions control system, a regenerative thermal oxidizer. ‘The new oxidizer has provided us with effective, efficient and affordable control of air pollutants and volatile organic compounds in the plant, lowering our carbon footprint dramatically,’ explained quality control manager, Yossi Amir. ‘We are also exploring the possibility of exploiting the energy produced by the oxidizer for steam, which we use to heat the coating lines.’
Other moves taken by the company during the ISO processes included streamlining waste disposal methods, recycling chemicals and packaging wherever possible, and transferring from oil power to natural gas. In parallel, Hanita implemented intensive employee environmental awareness and safety training.
‘Embracing these standards at Hanita Coatings is another step in our continued investment in producing a quality product,’ commented Aviv Sotto, sales and marketing manager, ‘and in developing managerial criteria which will strengthen our ecological awareness, and reinforce our concern for our employees' welfare.’
