Concern over Australian plastic recycling confirmed by survey
Results of the latest Australian National Recycling and Recovery Survey for plastics packaging confirm that although local recycling rates have enjoyed a steady increase in recent years, there is a real need for Australia to understand and support plastics closed loop economies, particularly in relation to soft plastics.

The plastic packaging recovery saw a relatively minor decrease of 3 percent during the survey period. The Australian Packaging Covenant which commissioned the latest survey says it is committed to addressing the need to reverse this trend in a new five-year strategic plan recently explored by a Packaging Sustainability Think Tank held in Sydney earlier this year.
The National Recycling and Recovery Survey is a significant component of the country's plastics recycling program and regarded as playing an important role in the Australian plastics industry's reporting in a national and global context.
