PPP Digital Imaging installs GMG technologies

Specialist packaging reprographics and platemaking firm PPP Digital Imaging has moved to standardize its processes using GMG color management technologies for all proofing requirements, as well as for its new Fusion Fixed Palette packaging print service.

PPP Digital Imaging initially invested in GMG’s FlexoProof and ProofControl software applications to advance its proofing and color management services. More recently, it has invested in GMG's OpenColor tool.

‘Our previous proofing solution was slow, expensive and required constant calibration to perform at its best,’ said Phil Gibbons, studio manager at PPP Digital Imaging. ‘I already knew of GMG’s formidable reputation in all things color related, so invited them in to show us their solutions.

‘Within a very short space of time during the demonstration, everyone here knew that a GMG-based proofing solution was where we needed to move to.

‘GMG gives us the control to both produce and replicate the quality of reproduction that our clients expect. In addition, GMG OpenColor has allowed us to reduce the amount of press fingerprinting that we do and given us the ability to monitor consistency with our Fusion Fixed Palette offering.’

Fusion Fixed Palette is an ‘innovative and cost-effective print services solution’ offering reduced color printing, but with an increased color gamut when compared to conventional CMYK process inks.

‘The concept is straightforward,’ added Gibbons. ‘By using inks that are of a spectrally-purer nature, along with the benefits our Fusion imaging and plate technology bring, we are able to reproduce a significantly higher number of non-standard colors with just four inks without our clients having to resort to the extra expense and lead time that spot color printing often entails.’

Toby Burnett, managing director of GMG UK, concluded: ‘PPP Digital Imaging’s investment in GMG FlexoProof and OpenColor has allowed it to not only increase the quality of service to its clients and partners, but has provided it with a new value-added print services opportunity.’
