SML Group receives SBTi validation

Label and RFID specialist receives climate commitment verification alongside product awards.

SML Group has received validation from the Science Based Targets initiative for its commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by 2050, placing the Hong Kong-based label and RFID provider among companies whose long-term climate targets are independently verified as aligned with the Paris Agreement's 1.5 deg C pathway.

The validation under SBTi's Net-Zero Criteria V1.3 complements a previously validated near-term target of 42 percent absolute emissions reductions by 2030. Since the 2021 base year, SML has already reduced its scope 1 and 2 emissions by 12.9 percent, with the long-term commitment locking in a 90 percent reduction pathway across direct operations and key value chain categories by 2050.

The SBTi milestone arrives alongside two international awards for SML's InfuseRFID embedded tagging technology. In February 2026, it won the 2026 SEAL Sustainable Product Award, and in April, it received a Gold Globee Winner designation at the 13th Annual Globee Awards for Excellence. SML was also named to the 2025 China Most Innovative RFID Enterprises list at the IoT Star Awards.

InfuseRFID enables garments to be tagged at the raw material or early assembly stage, with embedded RFID that survives industrial washing, dyeing and chemical finishing while maintaining full data integrity. The technology is deployed at a commercial scale with leading global apparel brands across multiple continents.

'This validation reflects four decades of investing where it matters: in people, in technology and now in a climate commitment spanning our entire value chain,' said Ignatius K.C. Lau, CEO of SML Group.

'The sustainability conversation is shifting beyond how products are made to include what happens after they are sold,' noted Nanna Ingemann Dalsgaard, vice president of sustainability, digital ID and marketing at SML Group. 'By providing a digital identity layer at the item level, we give brands the foundation they need to deliver traceability, compliance and circularity outcomes as regulations evolve.'
