Labeling bottles of whisky used to be a labor intensive, time-consuming operation, particularly for companies handling a large number of brands. But all that could be a thing of the past thanks to one of the latest developments from Advanced Dynamics Limited, supplier of high quality labeling and check-weighing equipment.

Houston Co-pack of Renfrew near Glasgow wanted a machine that could accurately place labels on the body of a bottle - front and back - as well as on the neck. And it needed the equipment to be versatile because of the range of brands the company handles. Houston opted for a CG84 rotary, wet glue labeler from Cavagnino and Gatti.

Advanced Dynamics is the UK distributor for Cavagnino & Gatti, the Italian company that has over 40 years experience and whose name is well established and respected throughout the packaging sector across Europe and beyond.

Malcolm Little, joint managing director of Advanced Dynamics Limited, said: ‘Houston's looked at many machines on the market and selected us due to the quality and design features of the CG84 machine. It has a unique label transfer system and quick changeovers with a minimum number of parts required. The local support provided by Sealed Air Ltd, our business associate in Scotland, was a significant factor in awarding the order to us.’

Houston is delighted with the machine's advanced technology, which incorporates a single-face rotating pallet for optimum accuracy allied to economical operation and simple changeovers.

The CG84 machine has been installed to replace a semi-automatic label applicator that required three different processes for the three labels. ‘The old system was not only labor intensive, it was extremely slow,’ said Little. ‘We have allowed Houston to increase its output significantly and at the same time allowed them to reduce manning levels.’
