Ahlstrom, a global supplier of release base papers and specialty papers for flexible packaging, wet-glue and self-adhesive labeling, announced that it will increase prices of its paper grades as a consequence of continuing cost escalation.

In a statement, the company said, ‘Oil prices have been rising rapidly for over two years, especially during last summer. This has adversely impacted many cost components in the highly energy intensive manufacturing of specialty papers. Additionally, prices of transportation and oil-based chemicals and raw materials have also risen. These effects have significantly exceeded what can be considered normal inflation, for which the company strives to compensate with continuous efficiency improvements and cost-cutting programs.’ Increases between 5 per cent and 12 per cent will be applied not later than December 1st, depending on different products and regions, and unless differently provided by existing contracts.
