UK-based Resource Efficiency Yorkshire (REY) has appointed Mark Gregory as its paper and card project manager. He will work with businesses and local authorities in Yorkshire and Humber to increase the amount of paper and cardboard sent for recycling and reuse. He will also identify cost savings, business, investment and job creation opportunities via implementation of resource efficiency measures.

REY is a business support and market development delivery program funded by Yorkshire Forward and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Gregory said: ‘I will be supporting businesses by showing them how they can become more profitable and sustainable through the efficient handling of waste paper. The REY program aims to bring together producers and collectors of waste paper and cardboard to foster long-term working relationships. The REY paper programme will help to steer Yorkshire and Humber to a resource efficient, low carbon future.’

Andy Hartley, program director for REY said: ‘Poor resource efficiency continues to be a drag on the competitiveness of the regions small businesses. Even in areas such as paper and card waste prevention, re-use and recycling there is still huge progress we need to make. Mark will be working on initiatives that will create jobs and increase investment in the resource efficiency sector.’

Gregory joins REY from Resource Futures where he was project manager for the UK-wide Community RePaint initiative. He is a member of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (MCIWM) and of the Society for the Environment (CEnv).
