Xeikon sponsors environmental initiatives at Labelexpo Americas

Digital press manufacturer Xeikon is sponsoring two sustainability initiatives at Labelexpo Americas 2012, emphasizing its focus on eco-friendly technology and sustainable manufacturing.
The two Xeikon-sponsored sustainability initiatives at the event are:
Ecovillage: Xeikon is a Gold sponsor of Ecovillage, an initiative to collect the waste matrix and finished rolls from live demonstrations happening at the show, and converting them to fuel pellets. Within the Ecovillage area, a group of exhibitors, including Xeikon, will display technologies and products that enable more environmentally-friendly label printing. In addition, there will be two educational panel sessions focused on environmental sustainability in the Ecovillage area. A panel discussion titled ‘Turning Waste into energy’ is scheduled for 1:00 pm CT on September 11, in the Ecovillage area. Another panel, titled ‘Creating value by reducing waste across the PS value chain’, will take place Sept 12, at 2:00 pm CT, in stream 3.
Global Green Awards: Xeikon is sponsoring the third annual Global Green Awards competition among label manufacturing suppliers, which will be presented at Labelexpo Americas. The competition seeks submissions from companies that examine how label converters can minimize the environmental impact of their business.
Xeikon will also be demonstrating its products for digital label printing at booth 6135, Hall F.
‘Increasingly, brand owners are looking for printing innovations that make packaging and label production more environmentally sustainable, and many label printers are facing a customer mandate to be more green in the way they do business,’ said Michael V. Ring, president of Xeikon America and vice president of WW Marketing. ‘At Xeikon, sustainability isn’t just a peripheral activity, it’s embedded in our company, from the minimized environmental impact of our products, to the reduction of waste by enabling our customers to print only what they need. The initiatives we’re sponsoring are further confirmations of our leadership on this topic.’
Xeikon has been making efforts to be a more sustainable company. All of its plants comply with the EU WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive to reduce waste, and energy consumption at its Heultje, Belgium, toner plant has been reduced by reusing heat recovered from the manufacturing process to heat the building.
