Avery Dennison to sell corn-based film

The Fasson Roll North American division of Avery Dennison is the latest laminate supplier to add EarthFirst PLA film to its product offering. In a co-branding agreement with Plastic Suppliers, Fasson will utilize NatureWorks PLA resin from NatureWorks LLC.

The EarthFirst PLA film facestock is produced by Plastic Suppliers in Columbus, Ohio, using a corn-based biopolymer, which is compostable after use.

EarthFirst PLA film is FDA compliant for direct food contact and features heat sealable, aroma barrier and flavor retention properties. Good layflat and rigidity, along with ease of die cutting, are claimed.

In a statement, Fasson said, ‘EarthFirst PLA film offers a high gloss and scratch-resistant surface and is ideal for applications that want to make an immediate impact at the retail shelf, while demonstrating environment responsibility when disposing. From wines to natural and organic foods to personal care items, these earth-friendly applications desire labels as eco-friendly as the packaged product.’
