A new guide to color management and standardization, The BPIF Color Toolkit, was launched at the BPIF’s first-ever color management conference, held on 18 September in Solihull, UK.

The guide has been produced by the Technical Standards Committee and edited by Committee member Aaron Archer, group technical director of PurePrint. Member companies can download a copy free at www.britishprint.com/page.asp?node=727&sec=Publications.

The guide takes a step-by-step approach to color management, following a workflow process familiar to most printing companies. Starting with the project brief and the creation of target print conditions, the guide takes the reader through the capture and conversion of imagery, viewing, composition, workflow, proofing, plate imaging and calibration, and printing.  Information on color management and process controls is given for each stage.

Aaron Archer said: ‘Navigating your way through color management and the implementation of ISO standards is no mean feat and this is why the BPIF’s Technical Standards Committee has elected to produce this simple guide. We have also listed consultants and industry bodies that are able to provide practical help. We hope that it will be helpful in raising awareness and understanding of this complex subject: one that is of growing interest to our industry’s customers.’
